Atenas LDD turned in a composed and clinical display to beat Lanús LDD 80–63 in Argentina's Liga Nacional development competition, controlling the game from the second quarter onwards. The 17-point margin reflected a performance built on defensive pressure, efficient transition scoring and a clear edge in bench production.

Match Overview

The opening period was tight, with both sides trading baskets and Lanús showing early promise from the perimeter. But Atenas gradually imposed their physicality, tightening up on defence and forcing Lanús into difficult, contested shots. By halftime the hosts had built a working lead, and they never looked back.

The third quarter was where the game truly broke open. Atenas strung together a series of stops and converted them into easy points at the other end, stretching the advantage to a point where Lanús had no realistic route back. The fourth quarter was managed calmly, with Atenas rotating their roster and protecting the lead.

Key Moments

• Second-quarter separation: A 12–2 Atenas run midway through the period opened the first meaningful gap of the game.
• Third-quarter lockout: The hosts held Lanús to a low-scoring stretch while converting turnovers into transition baskets.
• Bench contribution: Atenas' reserves extended the lead in the third, maintaining intensity when the starters rested.
• Fourth-quarter control: Atenas slowed the tempo and protected possession, denying Lanús any momentum-swinging run.

Tactical Story

Defence set the tone for Atenas LDD. Their on-ball pressure disrupted Lanús' rhythm, and their help rotations were consistently a step ahead. On offence, Atenas shared the ball well, generating high-quality looks and attacking the rim when Lanús overcommitted on the perimeter.

Lanús LDD showed flashes — particularly in the first quarter — but struggled with turnovers and gave up too many second-chance opportunities. Against a team as organised as Atenas, those extra possessions proved decisive.

Season Impact

For Atenas LDD, this is the kind of victory that builds confidence in a development league where consistency is often elusive. The balanced scoring and defensive discipline are encouraging signs for their progression. Lanús LDD will focus on ball security and rebounding as they look to bounce back in their next outing.
