Al Ittihad Aleppo secured an 88-74 road victory over Al Arabi in Arab Nations Cup basketball action on October 20, 2026, using a strong middle stretch to take control and a composed fourth quarter to close out the win. The 14-point margin reflected Al Ittihad's efficiency at both ends and handed Al Arabi a frustrating result in front of their supporters.

Match overview

Al Arabi started brightly, using home energy and aggressive drives to keep the game close in the opening minutes. Al Ittihad Aleppo absorbed the early pressure and gradually found their rhythm, moving the ball patiently and attacking mismatches. By the end of the first quarter, the game was still tightly balanced.

The second quarter proved decisive. Al Ittihad increased their defensive intensity, forcing Al Arabi into difficult shots and turnovers. On offense, they capitalized on transition opportunities and knocked down open perimeter looks. A significant run before halftime gave the visitors a lead they would protect for the rest of the game.

Al Arabi attempted to rally in the third quarter, finding some success inside and from beyond the arc, but Al Ittihad always had an answer. The visitors kept their composure, answered every mini-run, and pulled away again in the final period. The 88-74 final score was a fair reflection of Al Ittihad's control over the middle and late stages.

Key moments

• Second-quarter run: Al Ittihad Aleppo turned defensive stops into quick points and built a double-digit cushion.
• Third-quarter response: Whenever Al Arabi threatened to close the gap, the visitors responded with timely baskets.
• Fourth-quarter finish: Al Ittihad managed the clock well and converted free throws to seal the result.

Tactical story

Al Ittihad Aleppo's defense was the key to the win. They contested shots, closed driving lanes, and forced Al Arabi into turnovers that led to easy transition points. Offensively, the visitors shared the ball effectively and showed patience against Al Arabi's pressure, often finding the open man after drawing help defenders.

Al Arabi had their moments, particularly when they were able to play inside-out and create open three-point looks. However, inconsistent shooting and a handful of empty possessions in the second quarter allowed Al Ittihad to build the cushion that ultimately decided the game. Al Arabi's late push was energetic but came too late to seriously threaten the visitors' lead.

Standout performers

Al Ittihad Aleppo delivered a balanced team performance, with contributions from their guards and frontcourt alike. Their leading scorers made timely shots, while the defense as a whole limited Al Arabi's clean looks. Al Arabi's top performers fought hard to keep the team within reach, but the home side lacked the sustained execution needed to complete a comeback.

Tournament impact

The win gives Al Ittihad Aleppo momentum in the Arab Nations Cup and strengthens their position heading into the next round of games. For Al Arabi, the loss highlights areas to address, especially defensive consistency and ball security against pressure. Both teams will look to build on the lessons from this matchup as the tournament progresses.
