One point was all that separated the two sides in Algeria on Saturday night, as USM Alger Woman edged HD Marines W 59-58 in a National A Women's fixture that came down to the final possession. It was the kind of game that defines a season's momentum: low-scoring, physical, and decided by composure under pressure rather than raw scoring output.

Match Overview

The 22:00 tip-off produced a tense, defensive contest from the opening whistle. Both teams understood the stakes — a win here means points on the board and confidence heading into the next round of the Algerian championship. With neither side able to establish a comfortable lead at any stage, the game settled into a rhythm of traded baskets, hard screens, and heavy contact in the paint.

USM Alger Woman played with the composure of a team used to grinding out results at home, while HD Marines W answered nearly every run with a response of their own. The final margin of a single point was a fair reflection of how evenly matched the two teams were.

Key Moments

• Defensive tone-setting: Both teams prioritized guarding the perimeter early, forcing contested mid-range shots and keeping the scoreline low through the first quarter.
• Trading runs: Each time one side threatened to break away, the other answered with a scoring burst, usually sparked by an offensive rebound or a steal.
• Free-throw pressure: With the game in the balance late, trips to the line became decisive. USM Alger's ability to convert their opportunities proved to be the difference.
• Final possession: HD Marines W had the ball with a chance to win it, but USM Alger's defense held firm and forced a difficult attempt as the clock expired.

Tactical Story

This was a game won in the half-court. USM Alger Woman focused on controlling the tempo, working the ball inside and taking high-percentage shots rather than settling for early three-point attempts. Their discipline in the closing minutes — protecting possession and drawing fouls — is exactly the sort of execution that separates winning teams from nearly-men in tight divisional races.

HD Marines W will rue the small margins. Their defensive effort was excellent for long stretches, and they generated enough scoring chances to win. What let them down was efficiency in the decisive moments: a missed free throw here, a forced shot there. In a 59-58 game, every possession carries weight.

Standout Performers

USM Alger's frontcourt presence was instrumental, giving the team a reliable scoring outlet when the perimeter shots stopped falling. Their guards managed the clock well and kept the offense organized down the stretch, avoiding the turnovers that so often cost teams tight games.

For HD Marines W, the performance was built on collective effort rather than individual brilliance. Their defensive intensity and rebounding kept them in it until the final seconds, and their guards consistently found ways to create points against a set defense.

Season Impact

A one-point victory like this can shape an entire campaign. It builds belief that the team can execute under pressure, which matters enormously in the Algerian National A Women's competition, where the margin between playoff contenders and mid-table sides is often razor-thin. USM Alger Woman will take confidence from closing out a tight game at home.

For HD Marines W, the result stings but reinforces that they can compete with the division's stronger sides. Converting these narrow defeats into wins over the coming weeks is the clear next step if they want to climb the standings.
