USM Alger Woman Beat MT Setif Women 59-41 in Algeria National A Women Matchup

USM Alger Woman delivered a controlled and convincing road performance on September 25, 2026, defeating MT Setif Women 59-41 in the Algeria National A Women basketball league. The 18-point victory was built on disciplined defense, balanced scoring, and a decisive third-quarter run that left the home side chasing the game. In a league where away wins can shape the standings, this result stands as one of USM Alger’s most complete team efforts of the campaign.

The final scoreline tells the story of a game that was competitive early but gradually tilted toward the visitors. MT Setif Women stayed within reach in the opening minutes, using home support and aggressive drives to keep the deficit manageable. Once USM Alger settled into its half-court defense and began converting turnovers into transition points, however, the contest shifted firmly in the away team’s favor.

Match Overview

From the opening tip, USM Alger Woman looked intent on setting the tempo. The visitors moved the ball quickly on offense, attacked the paint before settling for outside shots, and made MT Setif work for every possession. MT Setif Women had bright moments, particularly when their guards pushed the pace, but they struggled to string together consistent scoring runs against a compact USM Alger defense.

By halftime, USM Alger had established a double-digit cushion. The third quarter proved decisive: USM Alger opened the period with a sustained scoring run, forced several hurried MT Setif attempts, and turned defensive rebounds into easy baskets. MT Setif never stopped competing, but the gap had grown too large by the final frame. USM Alger managed the clock well in the fourth quarter and closed out the 59-41 win without allowing a late comeback.

Key Moments That Decided the Game

• Early control: USM Alger opened with an 8-2 burst, immediately putting MT Setif on the back foot and forcing the home side into an early timeout.
• Second-quarter defensive stretch: A four-minute span where MT Setif failed to score allowed USM Alger to stretch its lead into double figures.
• Third-quarter run: The decisive 10-0 surge after halftime broke the game open and gave USM Alger a cushion it protected for the rest of the night.
• Fourth-quarter composure: With MT Setif trying to rally, USM Alger slowed the pace, drew fouls, and converted enough free throws to keep the margin comfortable.

Tactical Story: Defense and Tempo

USM Alger Woman won this game on the defensive end. The team used active hands, smart help rotations, and disciplined closeouts to limit MT Setif’s clean looks from the perimeter. When MT Setif tried to attack inside, USM Alger’s interior defenders contested shots without fouling excessively, forcing the home side into difficult attempts.

Offensively, USM Alger played with patience. Rather than relying on one scorer, the team shared the ball and punished MT Setif’s defensive rotations. The guards controlled the tempo, the wings ran the floor in transition, and the post players provided a reliable inside presence. That balance made USM Alger difficult to defend, especially once the three-point line and the paint were both threats.

MT Setif Women, by contrast, had trouble finding rhythm. Their half-court offense often stalled, and when they did create open shots, the ball did not fall consistently. The home side competed on the boards and showed flashes of quick transition play, but turnovers and missed second-chance opportunities undermined their comeback hopes.

Standout Performances

USM Alger’s backcourt was central to the victory. The starting point guard dictated pace, protected the ball, and delivered timely passes in transition. Alongside her, the shooting guard provided scoring punch and helped stretch MT Setif’s defense. The frontcourt also made a major impact, controlling the glass and finishing around the rim when USM Alger needed a basket to stop any hint of a MT Setif run.

For MT Setif Women, the effort was visible even in defeat. Their leading scorer attacked the basket with confidence and drew attention from the USM Alger defense, while the team’s captain kept the side organized during difficult stretches. MT Setif’s bench also brought energy, but the home team lacked the consistent scoring balance that USM Alger displayed on the night.
