NB Staoueli claimed a hard-fought 62-53 victory over Setif in the Algeria Super Division on Friday night, grinding out a low-scoring road win built on defensive discipline and smart half-court execution. In a game where neither side found consistent offensive rhythm, Staoueli's ability to control the tempo and convert key possessions in the second half proved decisive.

Match Overview

This was a defensive battle from the opening tip. Both teams struggled to score efficiently, with Setif in particular finding the going tough against a compact Staoueli defense that closed down driving lanes and contested every shot. The visitors never blew the game open, but they maintained a narrow lead for most of the night and pulled away gradually in the second half.

How the Game Unfolded

Staoueli edged the first quarter 16-14, setting the pattern for a game in which margins stayed small but the visitors always seemed to have an answer. The second quarter was similarly tight, with both sides trading baskets at a slow pace. Setif's offense relied heavily on individual efforts, while Staoueli looked more organised in the half court, moving the ball patiently to find open looks.

The third quarter was where Staoueli created the separation that ultimately won them the game. A steady run of scoring, combined with a series of defensive stops, pushed their lead into double digits. Setif fought back in the final period, but the visitors managed the clock effectively and made enough free throws down the stretch to keep their opponents at arm's length.

Key Moments

• First half: Staoueli's patient offense and disciplined defense gave them a narrow but deserved half-time lead.
• Third quarter: a sustained 8-2 run extended the advantage and forced Setif to chase the game.
• Final minutes: clutch free-throw shooting from Staoueli snuffed out any late home comeback.

Standout Performers

Staoueli's defensive unit deserves the plaudits for this win, holding Setif to just 53 points and forcing them into difficult, contested shots throughout. Their guards controlled the pace, slowing the game down when needed and protecting the ball in crucial moments. Setif showed effort and physicality on the boards, but their shooting struggles and turnovers in the third quarter proved costly.

What It Means for the Standings

For NB Staoueli, this is an important road victory in the Algeria Super Division and a result that should boost confidence as the season develops. Setif will be disappointed to lose on their home floor, particularly in a game that remained within reach for much of the night, but their defensive effort offers something to build on. Both teams will now prepare for their next fixtures with plenty of lessons from a tense, low-scoring encounter.
