Ilirija produced a dominant home performance to defeat Mega Tbilisi 96-62 in the Adriatic Basketball Association League on 18 October 2026. The hosts set the tone early with pressure defense and efficient offense, turning the game into a one-sided contest well before the final buzzer.

Match overview

Ilirija came out with clear intent, pushing the pace and attacking the basket from the opening possessions. Mega Tbilisi struggled to handle the hosts’ defensive pressure and fell into an early double-digit deficit. Ilirija’s ball movement was sharp, creating open three-point looks and easy chances around the rim. By halftime, the hosts had established a commanding lead and full control of the tempo.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Ilirija kept its foot on the gas, using its bench without losing rhythm, while Mega Tbilisi could not find a consistent offensive answer. The visitors had brief scoring bursts, but Ilirija’s defensive intensity and rebounding advantage prevented any meaningful comeback.

Key moments

The first quarter effectively set the direction of the game. Ilirija opened with a quick run, forced several turnovers, and converted them into transition points. The decisive blow came in the third quarter, when the hosts delivered a prolonged scoring run that pushed the margin past 30 points. At that stage, the only question left was the final scoreline.

Tactical story

Ilirija’s defensive pressure was the story of the night. The hosts disrupted Mega Tbilisi’s half-court sets, forced hurried shots, and turned live-ball turnovers into easy baskets. On offense, Ilirija shared the ball exceptionally well, with multiple players contributing to the scoring effort. The hosts also dominated the glass, limiting second-chance opportunities and fueling their transition game.

Mega Tbilisi’s difficulties were compounded by foul trouble and a lack of rhythm from the perimeter. The visitors found some success when they attacked the rim, but they could not sustain that approach against Ilirija’s rotating defense. The gap in bench production also widened as the game progressed, allowing Ilirija to maintain its energy and intensity for the full 40 minutes.

Standout performers

Ilirija received balanced scoring across the rotation, with the backcourt controlling pace and the frontcourt finishing efficiently inside. The bench added energy and defensive pressure, helping the hosts preserve their large advantage. Mega Tbilisi’s leading contributors fought hard, but the team’s overall shooting and turnover numbers made the climb too steep.

What it means

The 34-point win is a strong statement for Ilirija in the Adriatic Basketball Association League and a significant boost to their point differential. For Mega Tbilisi, the result highlights areas to address, particularly ball security and defensive rebounding. Ilirija will look to carry the same intensity into their next fixture, while Mega Tbilisi must regroup quickly after a difficult road night.
