FMP Beograd stunned Crvena Zvezda Belgrade 90-89 in a thrilling Adriatic Basketball Association League derby, edging the reigning powerhouses of Serbian basketball by a single point in one of the most dramatic results of the round. In a game that went down to the final shot, the home side's composure and energy carried them to a famous victory over their more decorated city rivals.

Match Overview

FMP came out with no shortage of intensity, attacking the game from the opening possession and refusing to be intimidated by the occasion. Crvena Zvezda, as expected, responded with quality — moving the ball crisply and finding ways to score despite facing a determined, well-organised defence. The lead changed hands repeatedly, and the contest remained within a single possession for long stretches of the fourth quarter.

How the Game Was Won

In a game decided by one point, the small details mattered most. FMP's ability to score late in the shot clock and their willingness to attack the rim rather than settle for contested jumpers kept them in front. Defensively, they gambled intelligently in the closing minutes, forcing Crvena Zvezda into a rushed final attempt that rimmed out as the buzzer sounded.

Crvena Zvezda had opportunities to steal it — they had the ball with a chance to win — but FMP's late-game execution, particularly from the free-throw line, proved decisive.

Key Moments

• FMP's high-energy opening quarter set the tone and kept the crowd fully engaged.
• A flurry of three-pointers from Crvena Zvezda levelled the game and briefly shifted the momentum.
• The decisive defensive stop in the final seconds denied Crvena Zvezda a winning basket.

Standout Performers

FMP's guard play was central to the win, combining shot creation with aggressive drives that repeatedly drew fouls and put pressure on the Zvezda rotation. Their big men competed admirably on the boards against a physically imposing opponent, and the bench contributed crucial minutes without any drop-off in intensity. Crvena Zvezda's individual quality was evident throughout — several players produced big scoring nights — but the collective rhythm deserted them in the closing possessions.

Tactical Story

This was a fascinating matchup between a young, hungry roster and a deep, experienced contender. FMP played with pace and freedom, looking to attack before Zvezda's half-court defence could set. Crvena Zvezda, by contrast, leaned on their structured offence and their ability to punish mismatches, particularly inside.

FMP's willingness to switch aggressively on screens disrupted Zvezda's preferred actions and forced them into isolation basketball — a battle FMP were happy to fight given their energy and physicality. The rebounding numbers were close, and the turnover count stayed low, which is why the game came down to a single possession.

Season Impact

Beating Crvena Zvezda — even at home — is a landmark result for FMP Beograd, and it will do wonders for the team's confidence in the Adriatic league campaign. For Crvena Zvezda, the one-point defeat is a reminder that in a competition as deep as the ABA League, no fixture is routine. It is the sort of loss that will sharpen focus rather than derail ambitions.

What's Next

FMP will look to build on the momentum of a signature win, while Crvena Zvezda will be eager to respond quickly in their next outing. In the Adriatic Basketball Association League, every game carries weight — and this Belgrade derby will be remembered for a long time.
