Aris Thessaloniki B.C. used a dominant defensive performance to defeat Maroussi B.C. 74-57 in Greek Basket League action on October 17, 2026. The home side never trailed after the first quarter and gradually pulled away in the second half, turning a competitive game into a comfortable win.

Match overview

Aris opened with a focused defensive approach, crowding Maroussi’s guards and forcing difficult shots. Maroussi stayed within reach early by hitting a few contested jumpers, but the visitors struggled to generate consistent offense. Aris led by seven at the end of the first quarter and extended the advantage to 12 by halftime.

The third quarter was decisive. Aris held Maroussi to just 11 points in the period and used a balanced scoring attack to build a 20-point cushion. Maroussi never threatened a comeback in the fourth, as Aris controlled the tempo and emptied its bench late.

Key moments

• Aris’s third-quarter defensive stretch, which included multiple shot-clock violations, broke the game open.
• A transition dunk midway through the third gave Aris its largest lead of the night.
• Maroussi’s late three-pointers only trimmed the final margin.

Tactical story

Aris’s defensive game plan was clear: pressure the ball, close out hard on shooters, and force Maroussi into long, contested possessions. The home side rotated well and limited second-chance points. Offensively, Aris attacked the paint early, then kicked out to open shooters when Maroussi collapsed. Maroussi’s offense became too predictable, relying on isolations that played into Aris’s hands.

Standout performers

Aris guard Sotiris Lymperopoulos led the team with 17 points and controlled the pace, while forward Kostas Verigos added 14 points and eight rebounds. Center Panagiotis Rallis anchored the defense with three blocks. For Maroussi, Alexandros Stamatis scored 14 points, but no other player reached double figures.

What it means in the Greek Basket League standings

The win gives Aris Thessaloniki B.C. a valuable home result and reinforces the team’s defensive identity in the Greek Basket League standings. Maroussi B.C. will need to find more offensive balance and improve its ball movement before the next round. For Aris, the challenge now is consistency, but this performance showed exactly what the team can achieve when its defense sets the tone.
