Noorderkempen Women produced a composed 3-1 home victory over Oudegem Women in the Volley League Women on 25 October, using aggressive serving and timely blocking to close out a hard-fought four-set contest.

The match finished 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17 in favour of the home side, a scoreline that reflected Noorderkempen’s ability to raise their level at the end of tight sets. Oudegem stayed competitive for long stretches, especially in the second set, but the home team’s pressure from the service line and their willingness to attack through the middle proved decisive.

Match overview

Noorderkempen started with clear intent, serving aggressively and forcing Oudegem into uncomfortable reception positions. The first set was balanced until the closing stages, when the home side found a run of points through a combination of block touches and transition kills. Oudegem responded well in the second set, tightening their defence and finding more success on the outside, but Noorderkempen regained control after the interval and never surrendered the initiative again.

• Set 1: Noorderkempen 25-21
• Set 2: Oudegem 25-22
• Set 3: Noorderkempen 25-19
• Set 4: Noorderkempen 25-17

Key moments

The first set turned at 19-19 when Noorderkempen scored four of the next five points, capped by a block on Oudegem’s opposite hitter. That late surge gave the home side the confidence to play with more freedom. Oudegem’s best spell came early in the second set, when a 8-3 lead forced Noorderkempen into a timeout; the visitors held their advantage this time and levelled the match.

The third set was the real separator. With the score at 12-12, Noorderkempen put together a 7-2 run built on strong serving and quick middle attacks. Oudegem never recovered fully, and the home side carried that momentum into the fourth set, moving from 14-10 to 20-13 before closing out the match comfortably.

Tactical story

Noorderkempen’s game plan was built around service pressure. By targeting Oudegem’s passing lanes, they limited the visitors’ ability to run their full attack and forced more predictable swings to the pins. The home middle blockers read those situations well, producing several crucial touches that turned defence into counter-attacking opportunities. Oudegem’s transition defence kept them in the contest, but they struggled to sustain quality sideout play when Noorderkempen raised the tempo.

Standout performers

Lotte Van den Broeck led Noorderkempen with 18 points, mixing powerful swings with smart shots off the block. Hanne Peeters added 14 points, including three important blocks in the third set, while setter Femke Janssens kept the offence balanced and found the middle regularly when Oudegem’s block drifted wide. For Oudegem, Anouk De Smet fought hard with 15 points and several impressive defensive plays, but her effort was not enough to prevent the home side from pulling away.

Season impact

The three points give Noorderkempen an important early boost in the Volley League Women standings and reinforce their ability to win tight home matches. Oudegem leave with a useful second-set response but will need more consistency in reception and sideout play if they are to turn competitive stretches into victories. For Noorderkempen, the result is a clear statement that their serve-and-block identity can hold up over four sets.
