Gent Dames rally past Waremme for 3-1 road win

Gent Dames recovered from a slow start to defeat Waremme 3-1 in the Volley League on 25 October 2026, producing a composed away performance after dropping the opening set. Waremme began brightly and took the first set 25-22, but Gent Dames responded with three consecutive set wins to take control of the match and the points.

The visitors won the next three sets 25-21, 25-19 and 25-20, demonstrating the kind of tactical flexibility and mental resilience that makes them a dangerous opponent in the Volley League. For Waremme, the defeat was a frustrating one after such a promising opening, but there were still positive signs in their attacking play and home support.

Match overview

Waremme’s first-set performance was full of energy. They served aggressively, attacked with purpose and managed to keep Gent Dames out of rhythm. However, the visitors made key adjustments after the opening set, tightening their reception and improving their block positioning. Once Gent Dames found their footing, the balance of the match shifted decisively.

Gent Dames’ experience showed in the tight moments. They stayed calm when Waremme threatened to build momentum and consistently found answers through their outside hitters and middle attack. The third and fourth sets were particularly impressive, as the visitors controlled the scoreboard and closed out the match with authority.

How the sets unfolded

• First set: Waremme came out with intent and matched Gent Dames point for point before pulling away late. A strong serving run and a few well-timed blocks helped them take the opener 25-22.
• Second set: Gent Dames responded immediately, raising their serving pressure and finding better connection in transition. The set remained close until the visitors created a late gap and levelled the match with a 25-21 win.
• Third set: The momentum was now with Gent Dames. Their block began to dominate the net, and Waremme struggled to find clean attacking solutions. The visitors took the set 25-19.
• Fourth set: Waremme fought to force a decider, but Gent Dames stayed composed. A mid-set run gave the visitors the cushion they needed, and they sealed the win 25-20.

Tactical story: adjustments after the opener

Gent Dames’ turnaround was built on serve-receive improvement and better defensive positioning. In the first set, Waremme’s serve had caused problems, but the visitors adjusted their passing lines and gave their setter more options. That allowed Gent Dames to use the middle more effectively and create space for their pin hitters.

Defensively, Gent Dames began to read Waremme’s attack patterns more clearly. Their block closed down the line and forced the home side into more predictable shots, which the back-row defence handled well. Waremme, by contrast, struggled to maintain the same level of serving pressure after the opening set and found it harder to break down Gent Dames’ organised block.

Standout performers

Gent Dames’ opposite hitter grew into the match and delivered several important points in the second and third sets. The setter managed the game well after a difficult start, while the libero provided stability in defence. Waremme’s captain and middle blocker were among their most consistent performers, but the home side needed more from their attacking unit in the closing sets.

What it means for the Volley League table

The 3-1 victory gives Gent Dames three points and strengthens their position in the Volley League standings. It also shows their ability to win on the road after conceding the first set, which could be important in a tightly contested season. Waremme will take encouragement from their opening set but will know that consistency across the full match is essential if they are to climb the table.
