Zawiercie delivered a strong road performance to defeat Verva Warszawa 3-1 in the TAURON Liga on October 29, 2026, using superior blocking and serving to overturn an early deficit. The result adds another important chapter to one of Polish volleyball’s most competitive rivalries.

Match Overview

Verva Warszawa made the brighter start, taking the opening set 25-22 behind a loud home crowd and some sharp attacking from the wings. Zawiercie responded with authority, leveling the match with a 25-21 second set before taking control in the third and fourth. The visitors closed out the contest 25-20, 25-19, securing a 3-1 victory and three valuable points in the TAURON Liga standings.

The match showcased the physicality and tactical depth of the Polish top flight, with both teams trading heavy serves and aggressive block-defense sequences. Zawiercie’s ability to sustain their level after the first set proved decisive.

Key Moments

• First set: Verva Warszawa’s serve and wing attack gave them a 25-22 opener.
• Second set: Zawiercie improved their block positioning and leveled the match 25-21.
• Third set: A decisive serving run from the visitors broke the set open, leading to a 25-20 finish.
• Fourth set: Zawiercie maintained their momentum and closed it 25-19 to seal the win.

Tactical Story

The match turned on Zawiercie’s block-defense system. After a difficult first set, the visitors began reading Verva Warszawa’s setter better and closed the angles for the outside hitters. That adjustment allowed Zawiercie to generate more transition opportunities and keep pressure on the home side’s reception line.

Verva Warszawa had success when they played through the middle and created one-on-one situations on the pins, but they struggled to sustain that pattern once Zawiercie increased their serving aggression. The visitors’ setter also did well to involve the opposite hitter in key moments, giving Zawiercie a reliable scoring outlet when the match tightened.

Standout Performers

Zawiercie’s opposite hitter was central to the comeback, delivering important points in the second and third sets. The team’s middle blockers combined for a strong blocking performance, while the libero provided stability in reception. For Verva Warszawa, the outside hitter showed flashes of brilliance, but the home side could not find enough consistency in the final two sets.

Season Impact

The 3-1 win strengthens Zawiercie’s position in the TAURON Liga table and sends a clear message about their ability to win on the road against direct rivals. Verva Warszawa will need to regroup quickly, particularly in serve-receive, as the season moves into a demanding stretch. Both teams remain in the conversation for the playoff places, but Zawiercie will take the greater confidence from this result.
