The TAURON I. Liga delivered another reminder of why it is one of the most competitive second-tier volleyball competitions in Europe, as Lechia Tomaszów Mazowiecki edged Mckis Jaworzno 3-2 in a five-set thriller on October 1, 2026. The visitors survived a hostile hall and a determined comeback attempt to claim two valuable points on the road, winning the deciding tiebreak 15-13 after nearly two and a half hours of high-intensity volleyball.

Both sides came into the match knowing that early-season points in the TAURON I. Liga can shape the entire campaign, and the tension was visible from the opening serve. Jaworzno started brightly in front of their home crowd, but the visitors' composure at the end of sets proved to be the decisive factor.

How the Match Unfolded

Jaworzno took the opening set 25-23 with a disciplined serving performance that disrupted the Tomaszów reception line. The home side's block worked well through the middle, and the crowd responded to every point as the hosts built an early psychological edge.

Lechia answered immediately. A sharper service game and better transition play through the pipe gave them the second set 25-20, restoring parity and forcing Jaworzno's coaching staff into an early tactical adjustment. The visitors' setter began spreading the attack more evenly, pulling the home block out of position.

The third set was the tightest of the contest until the closing rallies. Jaworzno regained the lead at 25-22, riding a strong run of blocking points and a couple of crucial defensive digs that turned into counterattacks. At 2-1 up, the hosts looked capable of closing out the match.

Instead, Tomaszów Mazowiecki produced their best volleyball of the night in the fourth set. Their serving pressure increased, the reception held steady, and the attack found rhythm from both wings. A 25-22 set win pushed the match into a decisive tiebreak.

The Decisive Tiebreak

The fifth set was everything a TAURON I. Liga fixture should be: long rallies, brave serving, and nerves tested on both sides of the net. The teams traded points to 8-8 before Lechia nudged ahead with a well-executed block-and-cover sequence. Jaworzno saved one match point with a powerful attack from the left, but the visitors closed it out 15-13 to complete the comeback.

Standout Performances

Tomaszów Mazowiecki's opposite hitter carried much of the attacking load in the closing sets, consistently finding the deep corner when the reception allowed a clean first-ball attack. Their libero was also influential, stabilising the back court during the difficult second and fourth sets and giving the setter options in transition.

For Jaworzno, the middle blockers were the standout performers, combining for a high number of block points and keeping the team alive in long rallies. The captain led by example with several important points at the net, though the hosts will rue a handful of unforced errors late in the tiebreak.

What the Result Means

The 3-2 victory gives Lechia Tomaszów Mazowiecki momentum as the season progresses, showing they can win on the road under pressure — a quality that matters enormously in a league where the playoff race is often decided by a handful of points. For Mckis Jaworzno, the defeat is frustrating but far from damaging: they competed with a promotion-chasing side for five sets and collected a point for their trouble.

Both clubs now turn their attention to their next fixtures in the TAURON I. Liga standings, where consistency at home will be essential. Jaworzno will look to convert their strong blocking game into victories, while Tomaszów Mazowiecki will aim to build on a hard-fought away win that could prove valuable when the table is finalised in the spring.
