Key moments

The opening set was level at 23-23 before Poznan produced a decisive block followed by a transition kill. Bydgoszcz’s response in the second set was impressive, as they broke away midway through and held their advantage with strong serving. The third set proved to be the turning point: Poznan moved ahead 16-12 and, although Bydgoszcz threatened a comeback, the home side kept their composure.

In the fourth, AZS Poznan started brightly and never let the visitors back into the set. A run of strong serves opened a five-point gap, and the home side’s block continued to frustrate Bydgoszcz’s attackers. Poznan converted their second match point to complete a satisfying win.

Tactical story

Poznan’s serving and block-defense were the key differences. After a difficult second set, they returned to a more aggressive serve and managed to keep Bydgoszcz’s setter away from the middle. That allowed Poznan’s blockers to focus on the wings and slowed down the visitors’ scoring. Bydgoszcz’s best moments came when they varied their attack and used the quick middle, but too often they were forced into predictable swings from the left side.

Standout performers

AZS Poznan’s outside hitter led the scoring with 23 points, delivering several crucial kills in the first and third sets. Their middle blocker added five blocks and was a constant presence at the net. For BKS Visła Bydgoszcz, the opposite hitter top-scored with 19 points, while the libero produced a series of impressive saves that kept the second set competitive.

Season impact

The win strengthens AZS Poznan’s position in the TAURON I. Liga standings and gives them an important head-to-head advantage over one of their direct rivals. In a league where home form and consistency often decide the promotion race, this is the kind of result that can matter deeply at the end of the season. BKS Visła Bydgoszcz will be disappointed to leave empty-handed, but they remain in the mix and will look to respond quickly in their next fixture.
