How the match unfolded

VNAU started the first set with intent, applying pressure through a mix of deep serves and well-placed short balls. Stolychna initially handled the challenge, but the visitors gradually built a lead by winning the extended rallies. VNAU’s block tightened in the final third of the set, and they closed it out 25-20.

The second set was the most competitive of the evening. Stolychna improved their reception and found more consistency in attack, keeping the score close deep into the set. The hosts had chances to steal momentum, but VNAU stayed calm in the key exchanges and produced a couple of crucial defensive plays. A 25-22 scoreline gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.

VNAU carried that momentum into the third set. They served aggressively, forced Stolychna into predictable attacking patterns and converted their transition chances with greater efficiency. Stolychna continued to fight, but the visitors’ blocking and floor defence held firm. VNAU completed the sweep with a 25-18 finish.

Tactical story

The match was shaped by VNAU’s defensive structure. Their block was not always spectacular, but it was well organised, guiding Stolychna’s attackers into areas where the back-row defenders were waiting. That combination of block and defence allowed VNAU to stay in rallies and wait for mistakes or transition opportunities.

On serve, VNAU were also more consistent. They targeted the seams and made it difficult for Stolychna to run a fluid middle attack. When the hosts were forced into high outside sets, VNAU’s defenders read the play well and kept the ball alive. Stolychna’s best moments came when they quickened their tempo, but they could not sustain that approach across the full match.

Standout performers

VNAU’s opposite hitter delivered an important all-round performance, scoring in key moments and helping the visitors stay composed during Stolychna’s second-set challenge. The setter managed the offence well, keeping the middle involved and finding the right wing at the right time. VNAU’s libero was also influential, repeatedly extending rallies with accurate passing and reading Stolychna’s attacks.

For Stolychna, the middle blocker provided a strong presence at the net and gave the team some important points in the second set. The outside hitters worked hard against a well-organised block, but the hosts lacked the serving consistency to put VNAU under sustained pressure.

Season impact and key takeaways

The away win is a significant result for VNAU in the Superleague standings. Winning in straight sets on the road protects energy and sends a clear message about their ability to manage difficult fixtures. Their serve-receive balance and defensive discipline will be key if they are to build on this result.

Stolychna will be disappointed with the scoreline but can take encouragement from their second-set performance. The challenge now is to turn short competitive spells into full sets and to find more ways to score when the block is set. In a league where every point matters, those improvements could quickly change their results.

• Key stat: VNAU won all three sets and limited Stolychna to 20 points or fewer in the first and third sets.
• Turning point: VNAU’s composed finish to the second set gave them a 2-0 lead and control of the match.
• Next focus: VNAU will look to maintain their defensive discipline; Stolychna need more serving pressure and attacking variety.
