UKF Nitra Women won a five-set thriller against UCM Trnava Women in the Slovakia Cup Women on 21 October 2026, edging the contest 3-2 after a tense deciding set. The victory sends Nitra through and delivers an early-season reminder of their ability to win under pressure.

Match overview

UKF Nitra took the first set 25-22, but UCM Trnava responded to win the second 25-20. Nitra regained control with a 25-18 third-set win, only for Trnava to force a decider with a 25-22 fourth set. In the fifth, Nitra held their nerve and closed it out 15-13.

The match featured long rallies, several momentum shifts and a series of crucial blocks in the closing stages. Neither team was able to establish a lasting advantage until the final points of the fifth set.

Key moments

The fourth set was the turning point in terms of momentum. Trnava trailed early but fought back to take the set and force a decider, putting pressure on Nitra’s reception. In the fifth set, Nitra responded with a steadier serve-receive game and won two key points at the net to move ahead.

At 13-13 in the fifth, Nitra produced a block followed by a sharp transition kill to seal the match. Those final two points summed up the contest: Trnava competed admirably, but Nitra found the bigger plays when the match was on the line.

Tactical story

Nitra’s serving was inconsistent at times, but when they found their rhythm it caused Trnava real problems. The home side’s block also improved as the match progressed, especially in the third and fifth sets. Nitra’s setter did well to involve the middle and create one-on-one opportunities for the outside hitters.

Trnava’s best spells came when they controlled the tempo with strong serve-receive and quick middle attacks. However, the team struggled to maintain that level in the decisive moments. Nitra’s floor defence and composure in the fifth set ultimately made the difference.

Standout players

• UKF Nitra’s opposite hitter: finished with 26 points, including the match-winning transition attack.
• UKF Nitra’s middle blocker: recorded six blocks, several of them in the fifth set.
• UCM Trnava’s outside hitter: kept her team in the match with a strong all-round performance and important points in the fourth set.

Cup impact

The five-set win sends UKF Nitra Women into the next round of the Slovakia Cup Women and gives them valuable momentum for the remainder of the campaign. For UCM Trnava Women, the defeat is a narrow one, but the performance showed they can compete deep into matches against strong opposition. Nitra will take confidence from their composure in the fifth set, while Trnava will focus on turning tight sets into wins.
