Don Bosco Women secured a valuable 3-1 victory over Veli Vrh Women in the Prva Liga Women, using a composed all-round performance to take control of the match and close it out in four sets. The result gives the home side important momentum in the league standings, while Veli Vrh are left to reflect on a night where they competed well in patches but could not sustain their best volleyball across the full duration of the contest.

Match Overview

Played under the lights with a lively home crowd behind them, Don Bosco Women started with intent and established the tempo early. Their serving was aggressive without becoming reckless, and that pressure translated into a steady stream of free balls that the home side converted efficiently in transition. Veli Vrh Women responded with some bright moments of their own, particularly through the middle, but the visitors struggled to string together enough consecutive points when the sets reached their decisive phases.

The 3-1 scoreline reflects a match that was competitive for long stretches but ultimately belonged to the side that managed the big moments better. Don Bosco's ability to reset after dropped points proved decisive, and their court communication stood out as the contest wore on.

Key Moments

The opening set set the tone for the evening. Don Bosco Women built an early cushion through disciplined reception and smart shot selection at the pins, forcing Veli Vrh into defensive adjustments. The visitors hung around, but a late serving run from the home side broke the set open and gave Don Bosco the first-set advantage.

Veli Vrh Women produced their best volleyball in the second set, tightening their block and finding better rhythm in attack. Their response leveled the match and briefly shifted the momentum, with the visiting bench energized by a series of long rallies won at the net.

• A strong blocking sequence from Veli Vrh kept the second set alive and delivered their only set of the night.
• Don Bosco's serve-receive stabilized in the third set, allowing their setter to run a more varied offense.
• A decisive mid-set run in the fourth set effectively closed the door on any Veli Vrh comeback.

Tactical Story

The tactical battle centered on the service line. Don Bosco Women used targeted serves to disrupt Veli Vrh's first tempo, forcing the visitors into more predictable outside attacks that the home block could read. That adjustment, made after the second set, was arguably the turning point of the match.

Veli Vrh Women, for their part, defended with heart and produced several impressive digs, but their transition game lacked the consistency needed to keep pace over four sets. When the rallies extended beyond ten contacts, Don Bosco looked the calmer and better organized unit, and that composure told in the closing stages of sets three and four.

Standout Performers

Don Bosco's wing attackers carried much of the scoring load, mixing power with well-placed tips to keep the Veli Vrh block guessing. Their libero also deserves credit for a steady passing performance that gave the offense a platform to work from. For Veli Vrh, the middle blockers were the brightest spots, contributing both offensively and at the net during their strongest stretch in the second set.

Standings Impact

The 3-1 win adds three points to Don Bosco Women's tally and strengthens their position in the Prva Liga Women table. For Veli Vrh Women, the defeat is a missed opportunity to climb, though the competitive nature of the match suggests they remain capable of troubling teams in the division. Both sides now turn their attention to the next round, with Don Bosco looking to build on this home win and Veli Vrh seeking greater consistency in serve-receive.
