The match was never completely one-sided, but the home side looked the stronger team in the closing stages.

Set-by-set

• Set 1: Gedania Gdańsk 25-23 Imielin Women

• Set 3: Gedania Gdańsk 25-18 Imielin Women

Key moments

The first set was decided by small margins. With the score level at 23-23, Gedania produced a well-timed block followed by a sharp transition attack to take the early lead. Imielin hit back in the second set, using stronger serves to disrupt the home team’s reception and force Gedania into predictable attacking patterns.

The third set proved decisive. Gedania opened a five-point cushion midway through the set and never allowed Imielin to close the gap. In the fourth, Imielin stayed within touching distance until the final few rallies, but Gedania found another gear at 18-18, closing with a 7-3 run built on disciplined defence and efficient side-out play.

Tactical story

Gedania’s serve-receive improved noticeably after the second set. The home team’s setter, Kinga Mazur, began to involve the middle blockers more often, which pulled Imielin’s block away from the pins and created better one-on-one opportunities for the outside hitters. Defensively, Gedania covered the short diagonal well and repeatedly kept rallies alive long enough to force errors from the visitors.

Imielin’s best spell came in the second set, when their jump serving put Gedania under pressure. However, they could not sustain that level of aggression without conceding errors. Gedania’s block also adjusted to Imielin’s opposite hitter, slowing down the visitors’ most reliable scoring route as the match wore on.

Standout performers

Marta Zielińska led Gedania with 21 points, combining powerful swings from the left side with several important kills in the fourth set. Middle blocker Anna Lewandowska added six blocks and gave the team a strong presence at the net. Mazur finished with 45 assists, distributing the attack well once the reception stabilised.

For Imielin, Aleksandra Nowak was the main attacking threat with 18 points. Her serving run in the second set briefly changed the match, but Imielin lacked the same balance in attack during the later sets.

League impact

The win strengthens Gedania Gdańsk’s position in the upper half of the I. Liga Women table and underlines their home-court form. For Imielin, the defeat is a reminder that they can compete with strong opposition but must find more consistency across four sets. Gedania will look to carry the serving and blocking improvements into their next fixture, while Imielin will focus on reducing errors in transition.
