VK Liberec Women opened their Extraliga Women campaign with a 3-1 home victory over Selmy Brno Women on 18 October 2026, recovering from a second-set wobble to close out the match in four.

The final scoreline read 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21 in Liberec’s favour. The home side showed patience after losing a tight second set, then reasserted control with stronger blocking and a more varied attack in the third and fourth sets.

Match overview

VK Liberec Women started confidently, taking the opening set 25-22. The hosts looked sharp in reception and used their outside hitters effectively to keep Selmy Brno Women under pressure. Brno stayed within touching distance for much of the set, but Liberec found the better attacking solutions in the closing rallies.

The second set was the most competitive of the afternoon. Selmy Brno Women raised their serving intensity and began to disrupt Liberec’s first-tempo attack. The visitors edged the set 25-23, levelling the match and briefly putting the home crowd on edge. It was a reminder that Brno had the quality to punish any drop in focus.

Rather than allow the match to drift, VK Liberec Women responded strongly. They took the third set 25-19 with a composed display at the net and then completed the win with a 25-21 fourth set. The closing set was not without tension, but the home side managed the key rallies better.

Key moments

• Opening set: Liberec’s late attacking efficiency secured a 25-22 win and an early advantage.
• Second-set setback: Brno’s serving and defence helped them take a tight 25-23 set and level the match.
• Third-set response: Liberec re-established control with a 25-19 set, led by improved blocking and smarter shot selection.
• Fourth-set finish: The hosts held off Brno’s final push to close it out 25-21.

Tactical story

VK Liberec Women’s victory was built on their ability to reset after the second set. Brno had success by serving more aggressively and forcing Liberec into predictable attacking situations. In response, Liberec improved their reception shape and used the middle more often, which pulled Brno’s block out of position.

The home team’s block also became a bigger factor in the second half of the match. After struggling to contain Brno’s outside attack in the second set, Liberec adjusted their positioning and produced key stops in the third and fourth sets. That defensive work translated into transition points and allowed the hosts to build small leads that they protected well.

Selmy Brno Women can take encouragement from their second-set performance, which showed they can compete in the Extraliga Women when their serve and floor defence connect. The challenge will be reproducing that level for longer stretches, especially in sets where the opponent gains an early advantage.

Standout performers

Liberec’s opposite hitter was central to the team’s attacking identity, particularly in the third set when the hosts needed to reassert themselves. The middle blockers grew into the match and made important contributions at the net, while the libero helped steady the back court during Brno’s strongest spell.

For Selmy Brno Women, the second-set win was a clear highlight. Their serving run in that set caused problems, and their defence extended rallies that might otherwise have ended quickly. Still, the visitors will want more consistency in the final two sets, where Liberec’s blocking and attacking depth told.

What it means

For VK Liberec Women, the 3-1 win is a solid start and a useful boost in the Extraliga Women table. Winning at home after losing a close second set shows composure and gives the team something to build on in the coming rounds. For Brno, the result is a competitive defeat that highlighted both their potential and the areas they need to tighten.

The final score was VK Liberec Women 3, Selmy Brno Women 1, with set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-21. It was a match of momentum shifts, but Liberec’s response after the second set proved decisive.
