Selmy Brno Women vs Ostrava Women: Selmy Brno Recover to Win 3-1

Selmy Brno Women responded to a second-set setback with a composed and powerful finish to beat Ostrava Women 3-1 in the Extraliga Women on 25 October 2026. The hosts won 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, showing the kind of depth and patience that could prove important over the course of the season.

The opening set was tight, with both teams trading points through the middle before Selmy Brno pulled away late. Ostrava responded well in the second set, raising their block and finding more success from the wings. That made the third set a key test of character, and the home side passed it with a controlled performance.

Match Overview

Selmy Brno’s serve reception improved as the match progressed, allowing their setter to involve the middle attackers more regularly. Ostrava competed well at the net and were rewarded with the second set, but they could not maintain the same level of pressure in the third and fourth. The home team’s serving became more aggressive, and their transition defence turned several long rallies into points.

Key Moments

• First set, 22-21: Selmy Brno won three of the last four points, sealing the set with a sharp cross-court kill.
• Second set, 23-23: Ostrava produced a crucial block and followed it with a service winner to level the match.
• Third set, 15-14: A four-point serving run from Selmy Brno created the separation that decided the set.
• Fourth set, 18-13: The hosts’ block closed down Ostrava’s main attacking route, and the lead never came under serious threat again.

Tactical Story

The match turned on Selmy Brno’s ability to raise their serving pressure without losing accuracy. In the first and second sets, Ostrava were able to play through the middle and keep the attack varied. From the third set onwards, Selmy Brno served more aggressively into the seams, disrupting Ostrava’s first contact and forcing more predictable high-ball attacks. That allowed the home block to set up earlier and gave the defence clearer reads.

Standout Players

Selmy Brno’s opposite hitter Anna Kučerová was the match’s leading scorer with 20 points, delivering important kills in each of the final two sets. Middle blocker Barbora Jelínková added five blocks and made a difference with her movement along the net. Ostrava’s Veronika Šimková fought hard for 16 points, while their libero produced several impressive defensive plays that kept the visitors alive in the longer rallies.

Season Impact

The 3-1 victory gives Selmy Brno Women three important points and strengthens their position in the Extraliga Women standings. It also demonstrated their ability to reset after losing a set, a quality that matters in a long domestic season. Ostrava Women leave with a defeat but can take encouragement from their second-set response and the competitiveness they showed in the opening exchanges.
