Match overview

The opening set was tight, with both teams trading points through the middle stages. UNIZA Zilina edged it 25-22 thanks to a late serving run and a couple of well-timed blocks. Nove Mesto nad Vahom responded well in the second set, lifting their attacking tempo and levelling the match with a 25-19 win.

The third set proved decisive. UNIZA Zilina re-established their block and began to win the long rallies, pulling away to 25-18. Nove Mesto tried to respond in the fourth, but the visitors maintained a small cushion throughout and closed out the match at 25-20.

Key moments

The third set changed the complexion of the match. With the score at 9-9, UNIZA Zilina produced a four-point burst behind strong serving and a pair of blocks. Nove Mesto never fully recovered, and the visitors carried that momentum into the fourth set. In the final set, UNIZA Zilina broke a 15-15 tie with three consecutive points and held off the home side’s late push.

• First set: UNIZA Zilina took a close opener 25-22.
• Second set: Nove Mesto levelled with a 25-19 response.
• Third set: The visitors regained control at 25-18.
• Fourth set: UNIZA Zilina sealed the win 25-20.

Tactical story

UNIZA Zilina’s block-defense balance was the foundation of their win. They were patient in rallies and forced Nove Mesto into repeated attacks against a set block. The visitors also served with better discipline in the third and fourth sets, limiting the home side’s ability to use their middle attack.

Nove Mesto had their best spell in the second set, when their passing allowed the setter to vary the offense and keep UNIZA Zilina guessing. However, they could not maintain that quality once the visitors raised their serving intensity. Too many out-of-system balls in the closing sets made it difficult for the hosts to build momentum.

Standout players

Lucia Horvathova was a key performer for UNIZA Zilina, scoring important points from the left side and contributing in transition. Petra Kovacova impressed in the middle with timely blocks and quick attacks, while the setter managed the offense well during the decisive third-set run.

For Nove Mesto nad Vahom, Michaela Danova fought hard and was the hosts’ most reliable attacking option. She kept the team in contention during the tighter moments, but the home side needed more support at the net to slow UNIZA Zilina’s late surge.

Season impact

The away win gives UNIZA Zilina Women an important boost in the Extraliga Women and underlines their ability to close out matches on the road. Nove Mesto nad Vahom will take encouragement from their second-set performance but will focus on reducing errors and improving their block coordination after conceding control in the third set. The result leaves both teams with clear lessons as the season progresses.
