Apeldoorn Women vs Viking TIF Women: Challenge Cup Women Preview

Apeldoorn Women welcome Norwegian side Viking TIF Women to the Omnisport Apeldoorn for a highly anticipated Challenge Cup Women tie on October 28, 2026. The Dutch hosts will be aiming to establish a first-leg advantage against a Viking TIF team known for its resilience and tactical discipline on the European stage.

The Challenge Cup is a proving ground for emerging volleyball nations, and both clubs see this as an opportunity to make a deep run. Apeldoorn, regular competitors in the Dutch Eredivisie, bring a fast, attacking style, while Viking TIF rely on a structured block and patient offense.

Team Profiles

Apeldoorn Women have built their season around dynamic outside hitting and quick middle transitions. Captain and outside hitter Lotte de Vries leads the team in scoring, supported by setter Sanne Bakker, whose distribution keeps opponents guessing. The Dutch side’s weakness has been consistency at the service line, but at home they often find an extra gear.

Viking TIF Women, based in Bergen, are a disciplined unit that thrives in long rallies. Their libero, Ingrid Solberg, is one of the best in the Norwegian league, and opposite hitter Marius? No—Viking TIF’s squad includes standout attacker Kari Nilsen, whose powerful jump serve can change a set in minutes. Coach Erik Hansen emphasizes defensive structure, often deploying a double-substitution to maintain blocking height.

Key Battles

• Serve vs Reception: Apeldoorn’s aggressive serving will test Viking TIF’s reception line. If the Norwegians can hold their shape, their middle attack becomes dangerous.
• Net Control: Apeldoorn’s middles must contend with Viking TIF’s tall blockers. Quick sets and pipe attacks could be the answer.
• Experience: Viking TIF have more players with European cup experience, which could prove vital in tight sets.

What’s at Stake

A strong first-leg result is crucial in two-legged ties. Apeldoorn will want to take a comfortable lead to Norway, while Viking TIF would be satisfied with a narrow defeat or, ideally, an away win. The match is expected to draw a lively crowd at the Omnisport, with the Dutch fans known for their vocal support.

Season Context

Both teams are in solid domestic form. Apeldoorn sit third in the Eredivisie, while Viking TIF are challenging at the top of the Norwegian Mizunoligaen.
