• Result: Noortekoondis 1-3 Daugavpils

• Set scores: 25-23 (Noortekoondis), 18-25, 21-25, 16-25
• Key theme: Daugavpils' serving pressure and improving block

How the match unfolded

The opening set was the highlight for the home side. Noortekoondis played with energy and intent, serving well and finding success at the net in the key moments. The set was tight throughout, with neither side able to build more than a three-point advantage, and the hosts showed composure to close it out 25-23 after a long rally ended with a block at the left pin.

Daugavpils responded exactly as a team with experience would. Their serving became sharper and more targeted in the second set, forcing Noortekoondis into predictable attacking patterns. The visitors built a five-point lead midway through and never let it go, taking the set 25-18 and levelling the match.

The third set was the most competitive of the last three, with the home team refusing to fade and trading points into the late teens. But Daugavpils' blocking unit tightened at the crucial moment, producing several key stops in a row to break 17-17 open and close it 25-21. The fourth set, by contrast, was one-way traffic — the visitors raced away early and finished emphatically at 25-16.

Tactical story

Daugavpils' victory was built on adaptation. After a first set in which they were beaten at the net, they adjusted their serving strategy to push Noortekoondis away from the middle and force higher, slower balls to the wings. That allowed their block to set up early and their back-row defenders to anticipate the angles.

The visitors also spread their attack far more evenly across the last three sets. Where the first set had been heavy on the opposite's shoulders, the second onward featured a balanced diet of middle attacks, pipe balls and outside swings. That variety kept the home block guessing and generated a steady supply of one-on-one opportunities. Noortekoondis, meanwhile, became increasingly reliant on individual efforts as reception quality dipped.

Standout performers and season outlook

Daugavpils' middle blockers were instrumental in the turnaround, controlling the net through the middle two sets and forcing the home side into uncomfortable shot selections. Their libero also produced a strong night in defence, repeatedly keeping rallies alive when the match was still in the balance at 17-17 in the third.

For Noortekoondis, the opening set showed what this group is capable of when serving well and playing on the front foot. The challenge is sustaining that level across four sets against experienced continental opposition. The defeat leaves them with lessons to take into the next round of Baltic League fixtures, while Daugavpils can travel home with real confidence in their depth and their ability to turn matches around on the road.
