Llanelli Town AFC 1-2 Baglan Dragons: Late Winner Seals Away Upset

Baglan Dragons secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Llanelli Town AFC in the Welsh Cymru Championship on October 3, 2026, striking late at Stebonheath Park to leave with all three points. Llanelli had taken the lead in the first half, but Baglan responded with a resilient second-half performance and found the winner in the closing stages.

The match was fiercely competitive, with Llanelli dictating the early rhythm and Baglan growing in belief as the game wore on. The visitors’ ability to defend set pieces and counter with purpose ultimately made the difference, handing Llanelli a frustrating home defeat.

Match Overview

Llanelli Town AFC began with intent, pressing high and moving the ball quickly through midfield. Their reward came midway through the first half when a clever passing sequence opened up the Baglan defence. But instead of collapsing, Baglan Dragons reorganised, tightened their lines and began to win more second balls. The equaliser arrived early in the second half, and from there the contest became a tactical battle of endurance and discipline.

Key Moments

• 22’ – Llanelli Town AFC 1-0: Jordan Price converted from close range after a low cross caused confusion in the Baglan box.
• 54’ – Llanelli Town AFC 1-1: Alex Morgan equalised for Baglan with a composed finish following a quick counter-attack.
• 81’ – Llanelli Town AFC 1-2: Rhys Thomas grabbed the winner, heading in from a deep free-kick to silence the home crowd.

Tactical Story

Llanelli operated with a high defensive line and looked to squeeze Baglan into their own half. It worked initially, but it also left space behind for the visitors to exploit. Baglan Dragons defended with a deep block, inviting pressure and then launching direct counter-attacks through their wide players. Their set-piece routine for the winning goal was simple but effective: a deep delivery, strong movement across the six-yard box and a decisive header.

Llanelli threw bodies forward late on, but Baglan’s back four held firm. The visitors cleared danger repeatedly and showed the kind of game management that wins tight away matches in the Cymru Championship.

Standout Players

Alex Morgan was central to Baglan’s comeback, driving forward and linking play intelligently. Rhys Thomas’ late header made him the hero, while the Baglan goalkeeper produced two important stops in the final ten minutes. For Llanelli, Jordan Price took his goal well, but the team’s inability to convert sustained pressure into a second goal proved costly.

Season Impact

This result gives Baglan Dragons a major confidence boost and strengthens their position in the Welsh Cymru Championship. For Llanelli Town AFC, it is a disappointing home defeat that could prove significant in the race for promotion. The league remains tightly packed, and dropping points at Stebonheath Park is something Llanelli will want to correct quickly. Baglan, meanwhile, will take belief from a win that shows they can compete with the division’s stronger sides.
