Nyva Vinnytsya claimed a 2-1 victory over Podillya Khmelnytskyi in the Ukrainian Second League on 17 October 2026, turning a tense regional derby into three valuable points at the Central City Stadium. The hosts led, were pegged back, and then found the decisive goal in the closing stages to strengthen their position in the table and give their supporters local bragging rights.

A derby decided by small margins

Matches between Nyva Vinnytsya and Podillya Khmelnytskyi rarely need extra motivation, and this fixture followed the expected pattern: compact defending, fierce midfield duels, and very little space in the final third. Nyva started with more urgency in front of their own fans, pressing Podillya’s build-up and forcing several early turnovers. The visitors, however, grew into the game and showed why they remain a difficult side to break down, often using quick transitions to relieve pressure.

The opening goal arrived in the 18th minute when Nyva worked the ball into a dangerous wide area and delivered a low cross that was converted from close range. Podillya responded well rather than collapsing, and their equaliser came early in the second half after a spell of sustained pressure. From that point, the match opened up, with both teams sensing a winner.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Nyva Vinnytsya take the lead after a well-worked move down the flank and a composed finish inside the penalty area.
• 54th minute: Podillya Khmelnytskyi equalise following a period of pressure, punishing a loose ball in the box.
• 68th minute: Nyva’s goalkeeper makes an important save to deny Podillya a swift second.
• 82nd minute: Nyva score the winner, capitalising on a half-cleared set piece and firing through a crowded penalty area.
• 90th minute: Podillya push bodies forward in stoppage time, but Nyva defend their box with composure.

Tactical story

Nyva’s approach was built on controlled aggression. Their midfield pressed in short bursts, looking to win the ball high and attack before Podillya could set their defensive block. That worked best in the first half, when the home side forced repeated errors near the touchline. After the break, Podillya adjusted by dropping an extra midfielder deeper and playing more directly toward the centre-forward, which brought them back into the contest.

The decisive tactical detail was Nyva’s response to conceding. Rather than retreating, they reintroduced width and began stretching Podillya’s back line with switches of play. The winning goal came from exactly that kind of pressure: a set piece was not fully cleared, and Nyva’s second-phase delivery created the chance that settled the derby.

Standout performers

Nyva’s central midfielder was the engine of the performance, repeatedly breaking up play and setting the tempo after the equaliser. The home captain also deserves credit for keeping the side calm during Podillya’s best spell. For the visitors, the centre-back pairing handled a difficult first half and kept the game alive, while their attacking midfielder was the most creative outlet on the pitch after the interval.

What the result means

The three points give Nyva Vinnytsya a timely boost in the Ukrainian Second League standings and reinforce their home form. For Podillya Khmelnytskyi, the defeat is a frustrating one because they responded well to going behind and had chances to take control of the match. In a league where fine margins often decide promotion and relegation battles, this derby result could carry extra weight as the season develops.
