Arratia CD U19 is the youth academy team of Club Deportivo Arratia, a Spanish football club based in the Arratia valley in the Basque Country. The U19 side is a crucial stepping stone for young players aiming to reach the senior squad or pursue a career in professional football.

Youth Development Philosophy

Arratia CD has long been recognized for its commitment to developing local talent. The U19 team competes in the Liga Nacional Juvenil, the second tier of Spanish youth football, and serves as the final stage of the club's youth setup before players graduate to the senior team or move on to larger clubs. The emphasis is on technical proficiency, tactical intelligence, and a strong work ethic, all rooted in the Basque footballing tradition.

The coaches at Arratia CD U19 focus on individual player development within a team framework. Training sessions are designed to improve decision-making under pressure, positional play, and physical conditioning. The club's philosophy is to produce well-rounded players who can adapt to different systems and situations.

Competition and League Structure

Arratia CD U19 plays in the Liga Nacional Juvenil, Group 4, which includes teams from the Basque Country, Cantabria, and La Rioja. The league is highly competitive, with clubs like Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, and Deportivo Alavés providing tough opposition. Matches are played on weekends, and the team also participates in the Copa del Rey Juvenil and regional cup competitions.

In the 2023–24 season, Arratia CD U19 finished in a respectable sixth place, earning praise for their attacking football and never-say-die attitude. The team scored 45 goals in 30 matches, with striker Aitor Mendizabal leading the charts with 16 goals.

Training and Facilities

The U19 team trains at the club's modern training complex in Areatza, which includes two full-size grass pitches, a synthetic pitch, and a gym. The facilities are shared with the senior team, allowing for a smooth transition for players who are promoted. The club also employs a team of physiotherapists, nutritionists, and sports psychologists to support the young athletes.

Video analysis is an integral part of the preparation, with coaches reviewing match footage to highlight areas for improvement. This professional approach has helped several graduates make the step up to semi-professional and professional football.

Several graduates have joined the youth academies of Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad, while others have signed for clubs in the Spanish third tier.
