Stenungsunds IF delivered a composed away performance to beat Carlstad United BK 2-0 in the Swedish Division 2 Norra Götaland on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Two second-half goals settled a competitive match and handed the visitors a valuable three points on the road.

Match overview

The game was evenly contested for much of the first half, with Carlstad United BK enjoying more of the ball but struggling to turn possession into clear chances. Stenungsunds IF defended in a compact block and looked dangerous on the break. The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Elias Berg latched onto a through ball, rounded the goalkeeper, and rolled the ball into the empty net.

Carlstad pushed for a response after the interval, but Stenungsunds stayed organised and doubled their lead in the 79th minute. A quick counterattack ended with Viktor Lindqvist striking low from the edge of the box, sealing the victory and silencing the home crowd.

• 52’ – Carlstad hit the post through a deflected shot, a moment that proved costly.

Tactical story

Carlstad United BK set up to dominate possession, using a 4-3-3 shape with wide players high up the pitch. They moved the ball from side to side and won a number of corners, but Stenungsunds IF’s back four held its shape well. The visitors were happy to concede territory, trusting their midfield to close down passing lanes and spring forward when turnovers occurred.

Stenungsunds IF’s 4-4-2 structure proved effective. Their two forwards worked hard to press the centre-backs, while the wide midfielders tucked in to prevent Carlstad from playing through the middle. Once they took the lead, they became even more dangerous on the counter. The second goal was a perfect example: a turnover in their own half, a quick pass into space, and a clinical finish from Lindqvist.

Standout players

Elias Berg was a constant threat with his movement and composure in front of goal. His first-half goal gave Stenungsunds the confidence to stick to their game plan. Viktor Lindqvist also impressed, not only for his goal but for his defensive work on the right flank, where he tracked back diligently to help nullify Carlstad’s overlaps.

For Carlstad, the midfield trio kept the ball moving well, but the front line lacked a decisive edge. The post and a few hurried finishes summed up their night. Their goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the score respectable, but the team will rue the chances they failed to take.

Division 2 Norra Götaland table impact

The win strengthens Stenungsunds IF’s position in the Swedish Division 2 Norra Götaland table and gives them momentum for the next round of fixtures. Carlstad United BK remain in a competitive cluster but will be disappointed to drop points at home. In a league where away victories are often hard to come by, Stenungsunds’ disciplined display could prove significant come the end of the season.
