Örgryte IS 4-2 GAIS — Örgryte IS won a thrilling Gothenburg derby 4-2 against GAIS at Gamla Ullevi on 18 October 2026, delivering one of the most entertaining Allsvenskan matches of the weekend. Six goals, a frantic second half and a late surge from the home side gave Örgryte a memorable three points and bragging rights in one of Swedish football’s fiercest local rivalries.

Match overview

The game started at a high tempo, with both teams pressing aggressively and looking to attack through the wide areas. Örgryte struck first and then doubled their advantage, but GAIS responded before half-time to set up a tense finish. The second half swung back and forth, with GAIS equalising to make it 2-2 before Örgryte regained control and pulled away in the closing stages.

Key moments

• 14th minute: Örgryte opened the scoring with a low finish after a quick move down the left.
• 33rd minute: The home side made it 2-0 from a set-piece routine that caught GAIS flat-footed.
• 41st minute: GAIS pulled one back with a header from a deep cross.
• 62nd minute: GAIS equalised after a sustained spell of pressure, silencing the home support.
• 78th minute: Örgryte restored their lead with a composed finish inside the box.
• 90+2 minutes: A fourth goal on the break sealed the derby victory.

Tactical story

Örgryte’s willingness to attack directly caused GAIS problems all evening. The home side repeatedly got runners in behind the full-backs and were ruthless in the moments when GAIS’s defensive line was stretched. GAIS, for their part, enjoyed long spells of possession and created chances through crosses and second balls, but their comeback left them exposed at the back. Once Örgryte retook the lead, the home side managed the game with greater maturity and punished GAIS on the counter.

Standout players

Örgryte’s attacking players shared the credit, with the forward line combining well and the midfield providing a steady stream of service. The player who scored the third goal was particularly influential, driving at defenders and linking play in the final third. GAIS’s captain kept his side in the contest with a tireless display, but the visitors’ defensive errors ultimately proved costly.

Allsvenskan table impact

The win gives Örgryte a timely boost in the standings and strengthens their belief ahead of a difficult run of fixtures. For GAIS, the defeat is a setback in the race for position and a reminder of how punishing the Allsvenskan can be when defensive concentration slips. Derbies often define a season’s mood, and this result will be celebrated long after the final whistle.
