Elfsborg 4-0 Halmstads: Allsvenskan Rout at Borås Arena

Elfsborg produced one of their most complete performances of the Sweden Allsvenskan season, dismantling Halmstads 4-0 at Borås Arena on October 13, 2026. A dominant first-half display set the tone, and the hosts added two more after the break to turn the contest into a statement victory.

Match Overview

Elfsborg started with high intensity, pressing Halmstads deep inside their own half and forcing repeated turnovers. The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when Michael Baidoo rose to head home a corner from Ahmed Qasem. Halmstads tried to respond with a compact 5-3-2 block, but they struggled to keep possession long enough to relieve the pressure.

Elfsborg doubled the lead in the 34th minute through a moment of individual quality. Ahmed Qasem collected the ball on the right, drifted infield, and curled a left-footed shot into the far corner. Halmstads had a brief spell before half-time, but Elfsborg’s goalkeeper was alert to claim a dangerous cross and preserve the 2-0 advantage.

The second half followed a similar pattern. In the 58th minute, Jalal Abdullai tapped in from close range after a low ball across the six-yard box. The scoring was completed in the 81st minute when Gottfrid Rapp converted a penalty after a foul inside the area. By then, Elfsborg were cruising, and Halmstads were simply trying to limit the damage.

Tactical Story

Elfsborg’s 4-2-3-1 shape allowed them to dominate the half-spaces, with Qasem and Rapp pinning Halmstads’ wing-backs deep. The hosts pressed aggressively, won second balls, and repeatedly attacked the space behind Halmstads’ defensive line. Halmstads’ 5-3-2 was designed to frustrate, but once the first goal went in, their shape became stretched. Elfsborg’s quick ball circulation and willingness to shoot from distance made them nearly impossible to contain.

Standout Players

Ahmed Qasem was the architect, scoring one goal and providing the assist for the opener. Michael Baidoo set the tone with his header and relentless pressing, while Jalal Abdullai and Gottfrid Rapp added the finishing touches. Halmstads’ goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score from becoming even more one-sided, but the visitors had few answers in midfield.

Allsvenskan Table Impact

The emphatic win strengthens Elfsborg’s position in the Allsvenskan table and gives their goal difference a significant boost in the race for European qualification. Halmstads, meanwhile, remain in a difficult fight near the lower half of the standings and will need to regroup quickly. For Elfsborg, this was the kind of performance that signals serious intent as the season moves toward its business end.
