Real Sociedad B 0-1 RCD Mallorca: Solitary Goal Settles Tight Segunda Division Contest
Final score: Real Sociedad B 0, RCD Mallorca 1
RCD Mallorca secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad B in the Spanish Segunda Division on Saturday, September 19, 2026. A single second-half goal was enough to separate the sides in a match that was short on clear chances but high on tactical discipline.
Match Overview
Real Sociedad B, the development side of Real Sociedad, started with the confidence of a team comfortable in possession. They circulated the ball well in midfield and looked to create openings through quick combinations. However, Mallorca's defensive structure was compact and well-organised, limiting the home side to shots from distance.
Mallorca grew into the game and began to threaten on the break. Their patience was rewarded in the second half when a well-worked move produced the only goal of the match. From there, the visitors defended their lead with experience, clearing crosses and slowing the tempo whenever possible.
Key Moments
- 18th minute: Real Sociedad B's first real chance came from a free-kick, but the effort curled just over the bar.
- 37th minute: Mallorca forced a smart save from the home goalkeeper after a low cross into the box.
- 58th minute: The decisive goal arrived when Javier Llabrés found space at the far post and converted a precise cross.
- 81st minute: Real Sociedad B pushed bodies forward, but a last-ditch block denied them an equaliser.
Tactical Story
Real Sociedad B played with a youthful energy, using their full-backs to provide width and their midfielders to overload central areas. Mallorca, by contrast, sat in a disciplined 4-4-2 block, inviting pressure before springing forward. The away side's experience showed in how they managed the final 20 minutes, keeping the ball in wide areas and drawing fouls.
The game's key tactical battle was in midfield. Real Sociedad B wanted to play through the lines, but Mallorca's midfielders cut off passing lanes and forced turnovers. That limited the home side's fluency and gave Mallorca the platform to score the winner.
Standout Players
Javier Llabrés will take the headlines for the winning goal, a reward for his intelligent movement in the box. Mallorca's centre-backs were also outstanding, winning aerial duels and blocking shots. For Real Sociedad B, the goalkeeper made several important saves, while the midfield showed flashes of quality but could not unlock a stubborn defence.
Season Impact
The win is a valuable boost for RCD Mallorca in the Segunda Division promotion race, demonstrating their ability to grind out results on difficult away days. Real Sociedad B remain a competitive side with plenty of young talent, but this narrow defeat highlights the fine margins in Spain's second tier. Both teams will take lessons from a tense, tactical encounter.
