A dour stalemate unfolded in the Shandong Qilu Football Super League as Qingdao Team and Weihai Team played out a goalless draw. Despite both sides showing ambition early on, a combination of stout defending, poor finishing and a lively pitch resulted in a match with few clear chances.

First-half pattern

Qingdao started on the front foot, with their wide players causing problems for the Weihai full-backs. A cross from the left after 15 minutes was met by a glancing header that flew just wide of the post. Weihai responded with a counter-attack of their own, but the final ball was lacking. The midfield battle was intense, with yellow cards shown to two players inside the opening 25 minutes as tackles flew in. By the half-hour mark, the tempo had dropped, and neither goalkeeper was truly tested before the interval.

Second-half frustration

The second period followed a similar script. Qingdao dominated territory but could not find the killer pass or the composure in front of goal. Their best chance came on 67 minutes when a corner was headed towards goal, only for a Weihai defender to clear off the line. Weihai offered little going forward, seemingly content to take a point. The referee added four minutes of stoppage time, but the game petered out to a 0-0 draw that will satisfy nobody among the home supporters.

What it means

Both Qingdao and Weihai remain in the middle of the Shandong Qilu Football Super League table. While a point apiece keeps them within striking distance of the top three, the lack of goals will be a concern for both coaching staffs heading into the next round of fixtures.
