SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea 0-1 ASU Politehnica Timișoara: Visitors Edge Tight Liga II Contest

ASU Politehnica Timișoara claimed a narrow 1-0 away victory over SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea in Romanian Liga II on 17 October 2026, with a single goal deciding a closely fought encounter. The three points are valuable for Politehnica, while Vâlcea are left to rue a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

The match was competitive from the first whistle, with Vâlcea looking to use home advantage and impose themselves through possession. Politehnica, however, were organised and disciplined, denying space between the lines and forcing the hosts to build play in wider areas. Clear chances were limited in the opening period, and both goalkeepers were largely protected by compact defensive structures.

The Decisive Moment

The only goal of the game arrived in the second half, when Politehnica turned a spell of pressure into the breakthrough. A quick transition opened space in the Vâlcea defence, and a low finish beat the goalkeeper to put the visitors ahead. It was the kind of clinical moment that had been missing for much of the contest, and it proved enough to separate the sides.

After conceding, Vâlcea pushed more players forward and increased the tempo. They delivered more crosses and forced Politehnica deeper, but the away side defended their penalty area with composure. The centre-back pairing and goalkeeper were particularly important in the closing stages, managing crosses and blocking shots as Vâlcea searched for an equaliser.

Tactical Story and Standout Performers

Politehnica’s success was built on defensive discipline and efficient use of the ball in transition. They did not dominate possession, but they controlled the most dangerous moments of the match and protected their lead well. Vâlcea’s midfield worked hard to recycle possession, but the final pass too often went astray or arrived under pressure.

For ASU Politehnica Timișoara, the clean sheet is a major positive from the trip. The result strengthens their position in the Liga II table and gives them a solid away performance to build on. SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea, meanwhile, will focus on turning possession into clearer chances in their next fixture. In a division where away wins are often hard-earned, Politehnica’s 1-0 victory is exactly the kind of result that can matter at the end of the season.
