Sportivo Limpeño (W) claimed a notable 1-0 victory over Club Olimpia Women in the Paraguayan Cup Women on October 4, 2026, producing a disciplined defensive performance and a single decisive goal to upset one of the tournament's traditional powers.

Limpeño stun Olimpia in Paraguayan Cup Women

Played at the Estadio Municipal de Limpio, the match pitted underdog determination against Olimpia's technical quality. Club Olimpia Women, widely regarded as one of the strongest sides in Paraguayan women's football, controlled much of the possession and created the better chances in the opening half. But Sportivo Limpeño defended with organization and bravery, keeping the game level until they found their moment.

The only goal arrived in the second half, and it came from a rare attacking opportunity. A quick break down the right produced a low cross into the penalty area, and the Limpeño forward reacted fastest to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. From that point on, the home side defended their lead with everything they had.

Key moments

• Olimpia pressure: The visitors dominated possession early, forcing several saves and blocking shots.
• Limpeño breakthrough: A fast counterattack led to the only goal of the game.
• Goalkeeping heroics: Limpeño's goalkeeper made crucial stops in the final twenty minutes.
• Late Olimpia surge: Olimpia pushed players forward and hit the crossbar, but could not find an equalizer.

Tactical story: discipline over dominance

Sportivo Limpeño set up in a compact 4-4-2 shape, with two banks of four limiting space in central areas. They were happy to concede possession and defend deep, relying on quick transitions when Olimpia committed players forward. The strategy required patience, concentration, and a lot of running, and Limpeño delivered all three.

Club Olimpia Women played their usual possession-based game, switching play from side to side and looking for overloads in wide areas. They created half-chances but struggled to break down a packed defense. When they did find space, Limpeño's goalkeeper was equal to the task. Olimpia's frustration grew as the clock ticked down, and their late surge lacked the precision needed to salvage the tie.

Standout performers

Sportivo Limpeño's goalkeeper was the hero of the night, making a string of important saves and commanding her penalty area. The center-back pairing also deserves praise for their timing in the tackle and their ability to clear dangerous crosses. The match-winner showed great anticipation to score the only goal. For Club Olimpia Women, the midfield captain worked tirelessly, while their striker was unlucky to hit the woodwork in the closing stages.

Impact on the Paraguayan Cup Women

The result sends Sportivo Limpeño into the next stage of the Paraguayan Cup Women with confidence and credibility. Beating a club of Olimpia's stature is a statement result, and it proves that the team can compete with the best when its defensive plan is executed perfectly. For Club Olimpia Women, the defeat is a painful one, but their overall quality remains clear. They will now turn their attention to future fixtures and look to respond strongly.

In knockout football, one goal can decide everything, and Limpeño's ability to take their chance made the difference. The win also adds another memorable chapter to the rivalry between these two Paraguayan women's football sides.
