Lillestrøm 3-2 Brann in the Norwegian Eliteserien on October 26, 2026, delivered one of the most entertaining matches of the round as the home side edged a five-goal thriller at Åråsen Stadion. Lillestrøm twice had to manage Brann’s attacking pressure, but a late winner settled a contest that swung repeatedly between controlled possession and rapid transitions.

Match overview

Brann began the match with the confidence of a side chasing the top places, moving the ball quickly through midfield and forcing Lillestrøm into early defensive work. The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Bård Finne found space between the centre-backs and finished calmly. Lillestrøm’s response was measured rather than frantic, and their equalizer arrived just before the half-hour mark through Thomas Lehne Olsen, who held his position in the box and converted a low delivery.

The second half opened with Lillestrøm in the ascendancy. Frederik Elkær put them ahead in the 51st minute after a sharp turnover in midfield, but Brann refused to fade. Niklas Castro levelled at 2-2 in the 73rd minute with a well-struck effort from the edge of the area, setting up a tense final period. The decisive moment came in the 88th minute when Sander Haugen arrived at the back post to turn in a cross and send the home crowd into celebration.

Tactical story

Lillestrøm set up in a compact 4-3-3, looking to deny Brann central access and then attack quickly through the wide forwards. Their midfield three worked hard to close the passing lanes into Brann’s advanced midfielders, and that pressure produced the turnover which led to Elkær’s goal. Lillestrøm were not always dominant in possession, but they were efficient in the moments that mattered.

Brann’s 4-2-3-1 gave them control for long spells, particularly in the first half, when their full-backs pushed high and created overloads on the flanks. The problem was defensive transition: each time Brann lost the ball in advanced areas, Lillestrøm found space to run into. Brann’s equalizer showed their quality in the final third, but their inability to protect the central area late in the game allowed Lillestrøm to secure the win.

Standout players

Thomas Lehne Olsen led the line superbly for Lillestrøm, combining hold-up play with sharp movement in the box. Sander Haugen’s late winner was the reward for an energetic performance off the bench, while Frederik Elkær’s goal underlined his value in transition. For Brann, Bård Finne and Niklas Castro were the main attacking threats, but the visitors will be frustrated by the ease with which Lillestrøm created chances in the final 20 minutes.

Season impact

The result gives Lillestrøm a significant boost in the Eliteserien standings and reinforces their reputation as a difficult side to beat at Åråsen Stadion. For Brann, the defeat is a blow to their title ambitions and leaves them with little margin for error in the coming rounds. With both clubs still carrying plenty to play for, the head-to-head now has an added edge for the remainder of the season.
