Tactical Story

Atlante set up in a compact 4-2-3-1 and used an aggressive high press to disrupt Monterrey’s build-up. Rather than allowing Rayados to settle into their usual rhythm, Atlante’s midfielders closed central lanes and forced passes wide, where Monterrey’s full-backs were often isolated. When Atlante won the ball, they attacked vertically and quickly, targeting the space left behind Monterrey’s advanced defenders.

Rayados de Monterrey enjoyed more possession and created a healthy number of chances, but they were repeatedly exposed in transition. Their 4-3-3 shape left them vulnerable to counterattacks, and Atlante’s front three were ruthless. Monterrey’s defenders struggled with the movement of Abella and Rivera, while Canales and Berterame were the main sources of danger at the other end.

Atlante goalkeeper Sebastián Fassi also played a crucial role, making several important saves, including a late stop that preserved the two-goal cushion. Monterrey finished with more shots, but Atlante were more clinical, converting their best opportunities and defending with desperation in the final minutes.
