Piratas FC came from behind to defeat Venados FC Yucatán 2-1 in Mexico's Ascenso MX, producing a spirited second-half display that delighted the home supporters. The result lifts Piratas up the table and deals a blow to Venados' promotion ambitions.

Venados started the brighter of the two sides, controlling possession and forcing Piratas deep into their own half. Their persistence paid off in the 34th minute when a flowing move down the right ended with a composed finish. Piratas struggled to find rhythm before the break, but a tactical adjustment at half-time changed the complexion of the game.

After conceding, Piratas increased their intensity and began to win the ball higher up the pitch. The equaliser arrived in the 61st minute when a long throw-in was flicked on and bundled home from close range. Buoyed by the goal, the hosts pushed for a winner and got their reward in the 82nd minute with a stunning strike from outside the box. Venados pressed late but could not find a response.

• 61' – Piratas equalise from a set-piece scramble, igniting the home crowd.

Tactical Story

Venados lined up in a 4-3-3, looking to dominate midfield and feed their wide forwards. Piratas initially matched them with a 4-4-2 but switched to a 3-5-2 after the break, allowing their wing-backs to push higher and create overloads. That change gave Piratas a numerical advantage in central areas and turned the tide.

Venados struggled to adapt to the new shape, and their midfielders were increasingly bypassed. The winning goal came from a moment of individual brilliance, but it was the tactical shift that laid the foundation for the comeback.

Standout Players

Piratas' substitute winger changed the game after coming on at half-time, providing pace and directness. Their central defender was outstanding in the air, repelling numerous crosses. For Venados, the striker who scored was a constant threat, and their goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the score level for as long as he did.

Season Impact

This victory moves Piratas FC into a more comfortable position in the Ascenso MX standings and signals their intent to challenge for a playoff place. Venados FC Yucatán remain in contention but will rue missed opportunities. Both clubs now face crucial fixtures as the season enters a decisive phase.
