Cruz Azul Hidalgo came from behind to beat Mineros de Zacatecas 2-1 on October 18, 2026, in a Mexico Ascenso MX clash that underlined the value of home form and second-half adjustments. The result gives Cruz Azul Hidalgo an important three points in the league standings and extends their encouraging run at Estadio 10 de Diciembre.

Match overview

Mineros de Zacatecas started brightly and took the lead in the 27th minute when a quick counterattack ended with a low finish from inside the penalty area. The visitors pressed well in the opening half-hour, disrupting Cruz Azul Hidalgo's rhythm and forcing the home side into long passes. However, Cruz Azul Hidalgo gradually found their footing and equalized just before half-time through a well-worked move down the left flank.

The second half was a different story. Cruz Azul Hidalgo increased their tempo, pushed their full-backs higher, and created a series of chances from set-pieces and crosses. The winning goal arrived in the 72nd minute when a corner was only partially cleared and the ball was turned back in for a close-range finish. Mineros pushed for an equalizer late on, but the home defense held firm.

Key moments

• 27' — Mineros 1-0: A fast break ends with a composed finish past the goalkeeper.
• 44' — Cruz Azul Hidalgo 1-1: A flowing move down the left creates an easy tap-in.
• 72' — Cruz Azul Hidalgo 2-1: A corner routine leads to the decisive goal from close range.

Mineros had a late shout for a penalty, but the referee waved away the appeals. The visitors also forced two late saves from the Cruz Azul Hidalgo goalkeeper, who protected the lead with confident handling.

Tactical story

Cruz Azul Hidalgo's 4-4-2 shape was designed to be compact out of possession and direct in transition. In the first half, Mineros exploited space between the lines, but the home side adjusted after the break by pressing higher and closing the central channels. The introduction of fresh legs in midfield gave Cruz Azul Hidalgo more control and allowed them to sustain attacks for longer periods.

Mineros de Zacatecas relied on quick counters and long diagonals, and their opener came from exactly that approach. However, as the game wore on, they struggled to keep possession and defend set-pieces. The winning goal exposed that weakness and proved the difference in a tightly contested Ascenso MX fixture.

Standout players

Cruz Azul Hidalgo's midfielder was the engine of the comeback, linking play and delivering dangerous set-pieces. The goalkeeper also deserves credit for two important second-half saves. For Mineros, the forward who scored the opener was the team's most consistent threat, while their central defender made several crucial blocks before the decisive corner.

What the result means

The 2-1 win boosts Cruz Azul Hidalgo's points total and reinforces their home advantage in the Ascenso MX table. It also gives the squad confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. Mineros de Zacatecas, meanwhile, will rue missed chances and a defensive lapse at a set-piece, but their first-half performance showed enough to suggest they can bounce back quickly.
