Alacranes de Durango Edge Dorados de Sinaloa 1-0 in Ascenso MX Away Battle

Club Deportivo Dorados de Sinaloa suffered a frustrating 0-1 defeat at the hands of Alacranes de Durango in their Mexico Ascenso MX clash on September 27, 2026. A single second-half goal decided a tight contest, giving Durango a valuable away win and leaving Dorados to reflect on a night of missed opportunities in Culiacán.

The result was a classic example of fine margins in the Ascenso MX, where one moment of quality or one defensive lapse can separate the teams. Dorados enjoyed long spells of possession and created the bulk of the chances, but Alacranes defended with discipline and struck decisively when their opportunity arrived.

Match Overview

Dorados de Sinaloa began the match with intent, pushing their full-backs high and looking to stretch the Durango defence through quick switches of play. The home side forced several early corners and tested the Alacranes goalkeeper from distance, but the final ball lacked the precision needed to break down a compact and well-organised back line.

Alacranes de Durango were content to sit in a disciplined mid-block, conceding possession in less dangerous areas while looking to spring forward on the counter-attack. Their patience paid off after the break. In the 67th minute, a quick transition caught Dorados stretched, and Luis Ángel Mendoza finished calmly into the bottom corner to silence the home crowd.

Dorados responded with urgency, making attacking substitutions and throwing numbers forward in search of an equaliser. They came close through a series of late set-pieces and a stoppage-time header that drifted just wide, but Durango's defence held firm to secure a hard-fought clean sheet and all three points.

Key Moments

• 67' — Goal for Alacranes de Durango: Luis Ángel Mendoza latched onto a through ball and placed a low finish beyond the Dorados goalkeeper.
• 72' — Dorados double change: The home side introduced fresh legs in midfield and attack, switching to a more direct approach.
• 84' — Crucial save: Durango's goalkeeper produced a strong reaction stop to deny a close-range effort from a corner.
• 90+3' — Late chance: A Dorados header from a deep cross flashed wide of the far post, summing up their night in front of goal.

Tactical Story

Dorados set up in a 4-2-3-1 shape designed to dominate the ball, but they struggled to penetrate a compact 4-4-2 from Alacranes. The visitors' midfield pair screened the central lanes effectively, forcing Dorados into wide areas where crosses were often overhit or cleared by a crowded penalty box.

Durango's game plan was built on resilience and quick counters. Their wide players worked tirelessly to track back, and when they won possession, they looked to release Mendoza and the supporting forwards into space. The winning goal was a perfect illustration of that approach: a turnover in midfield, a direct pass, and a composed finish.

Standout Players

Luis Ángel Mendoza will rightly take the headlines for Alacranes de Durango after scoring the only goal of the game. His movement in behind the Dorados defence was a constant threat, and his finish was clinical. Behind him, goalkeeper Carlos Bonilla delivered a commanding performance, making several important saves and claiming crosses under pressure.

For Dorados, José Raúl Zúñiga was the most persistent attacking outlet, driving at defenders and linking play in the final third. Diego Zamora also showed energy in midfield, but the home side lacked a decisive edge in front of goal. It was a night when effort was not enough to convert into points.

Season Impact

The victory lifts Alacranes de Durango into the thick of the playoff conversation in the Ascenso MX, strengthening their reputation as a side capable of grinding out results on the road. For Dorados de Sinaloa, the defeat is a missed opportunity to climb the table and keep pace with the early-season front-runners.

With the Ascenso MX season long and demanding, Dorados will need to turn possession into goals quickly. Their next fixture becomes an important test of character, while Durango will take confidence from a disciplined away performance that delivered maximum points.
