Empoli were aggressive from the start and took the game to one of the division’s most respected academies. Atalanta improved after the break and pulled a goal back, but Empoli’s organisation and energy earned them a valuable three points.

Tactical story

Empoli’s pressing scheme disrupted Atalanta’s buildup and forced mistakes in dangerous areas. The home midfield worked hard to close central lanes, while the wide players provided width and energy in transition. Going 2-0 up allowed Empoli to defend with greater compactness in the second half.

Atalanta’s response showed their quality. They moved the ball quicker and created more space between the lines, but Empoli’s back line stayed disciplined. The late pressure was intense, yet the home side managed the final minutes with maturity.

Standout players

Rossi and Bianchi took their goals well and gave Empoli a platform. The midfield unit deserved praise for its work rate, while the defence stood strong under late pressure. For Atalanta, Colombo was the most dangerous attacking threat and his goal gave the visitors hope.

What it means

The result is a significant confidence boost for Empoli Youth and shows they can compete with highly rated academy sides. Atalanta U20 remain a threat in the Primavera 1 race, but this away defeat highlights the importance of taking chances during their stronger spells.
