Croatia U19 secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Turkiye U19 in an international friendly on Sunday evening, delivering a disciplined and tactically mature performance that will please the coaching staff ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.

The match, played at a lively tempo, showcased Croatia’s ability to control possession and punish defensive mistakes, while Turkiye U19 showed flashes of promise but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Match Overview

Croatia started the brighter of the two sides, pressing high and forcing Turkiye into early errors. The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Luka Stojković received the ball on the edge of the box, took a touch to steady himself, and fired a low shot into the bottom corner. Turkiye responded with a spell of pressure, but Croatia’s defence held firm, with goalkeeper Ivan Marić making a smart save to preserve the lead before half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Croatia continued to dominate possession, patiently probing for openings. Their patience was rewarded in the 79th minute when Matej Vuković latched onto a clever through ball and slotted past the Turkiye goalkeeper to double the advantage. Turkiye pushed forward late in search of a consolation, but Croatia’s back line remained composed, clearing every dangerous delivery and seeing out the game comfortably.

Key Moments

• 33’ – Croatia goal: Luka Stojković opens the scoring with a low drive from the edge of the box.
• 45’ – Turkiye chance: Ivan Marić makes a crucial save to deny Turkiye an equaliser.
• 79’ – Croatia goal: Matej Vuković doubles the lead with a composed finish.

Tactical Story

Croatia U19 lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their wide players stretching Turkiye’s defence and their midfield trio controlling the rhythm of the game. The captain, Nikola Perić, was instrumental in linking defence and attack, constantly finding pockets of space between the lines. Turkiye U19 attempted to press high but were often bypassed by Croatia’s quick, short passing. When Turkiye did win the ball, their transitions were too slow, allowing Croatia to reorganise. Defensively, Croatia’s back four stayed compact and disciplined, limiting Turkiye to long-range efforts.

Standout Players

Luka Stojković was a constant threat, his goal capping a lively performance. Matej Vuković’s movement and finishing for the second goal were top class. In midfield, Nikola Perić dictated play with maturity beyond his years, while goalkeeper Ivan Marić made a vital save at 1-0. For Turkiye U19, the central defender Emir Kaya was a standout, making several important interceptions, but the attacking unit struggled to find rhythm.

Season Impact

This friendly victory provides valuable preparation for Croatia U19 as they build towards upcoming UEFA U19 Championship qualifiers. The clean sheet and disciplined display will give the coaching staff confidence in the team’s structure. Turkiye U19, meanwhile, will take lessons from the game, particularly in their ability to break down organised defences. The result adds another chapter to the growing rivalry between these two youth sides, and future meetings will be watched with interest.
