Szeged 2011 FC came from behind to beat Karcagi SE 2-1 in the Merkantil Bank Liga on 18 October 2026, with a late goal sealing an important away victory.

Karcag made a bright start and took an early lead, but Szeged gradually took control and turned the match around after the break. The visitors’ patience and superior possession paid off in the closing stages, leaving Karcag with a frustrating home defeat.

Match overview

Karcagi SE began with energy and were rewarded in the 12th minute when Bence Kovács finished a quick attack. The home side used direct football and set pieces to trouble Szeged, but they could not build on the early advantage.

Szeged equalised in the 39th minute through Márk Szabó, whose well-timed run into the box was found by a precise pass. From that point on, Szeged controlled more of the ball and forced Karcag deeper.

The winning goal arrived in the 81st minute. Dávid Takács found space at the edge of the area and placed a low shot beyond the goalkeeper to make it 1-2. Karcag pushed for a late response, but Szeged defended their lead comfortably in stoppage time.

Key moments

• 12’ — Karcag 1-0: Bence Kovács scores early after a fast attacking move.
• 39’ — Szeged 1-1: Márk Szabó finishes a well-worked move to level the score.
• 58’ — Szeged control: A spell of possession ends with a shot that is deflected wide.
• 81’ — Szeged 1-2: Dávid Takács curls in the winner from the edge of the box.
• 90+2’ — Karcag pressure: A late cross is cleared as Szeged hold on for the win.

Tactical story

Karcag’s early goal allowed them to sit deeper and look for counter-attacks, but the approach invited pressure. Szeged were patient in possession and gradually found gaps around the Karcag midfield. Their equaliser changed the momentum, and the second half was played largely in the home side’s half.

Szeged’s winning goal came from a moment of individual quality, but it was built on their control of the game. Karcag’s direct style created a few half-chances, yet they lacked the final ball needed to rescue a point.

Standout players

Szabó and Takács were the key figures for Szeged, with one goal each and constant movement in the attacking third. Kovács took his goal well for Karcag and remained a threat, but the home side’s midfield struggled to sustain pressure in the second half.

What it means

The win strengthens Szeged’s position in the Merkantil Bank Liga and gives them confidence on the road. Karcagi SE will be disappointed to lose after scoring first, especially at home, and will need to improve their game management in tight matches.
