A corner from the right was flicked on by defender Tim Knipping, and Müller was on hand to poke home his second of the night from close range.

The visitors improved after the break and pulled a goal back in the 55th minute through a well-taken free-kick from Erik Engelhardt, which curled into the top corner. However, Darmstadt restored their two-goal cushion in the 78th minute when substitute Lukas Hoffmann finished off a swift counter-attack, sealing all three points.

Tactical Analysis

Darmstadt set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Wagner pulling the strings in midfield and the full-backs providing width. Their high press forced Cottbus into numerous turnovers, leading to quick transitions. Cottbus, meanwhile, lined up in a 4-4-2 but struggled to maintain possession, often resorting to long balls that were easily dealt with by the Darmstadt defense. The introduction of Hoffmann in the second half added fresh legs and helped Darmstadt exploit the spaces left by Cottbus as they pushed forward.

Standout Players

Jonas Müller was the undisputed star of the show, scoring twice and causing problems all evening with his movement. Felix Wagner dictated the tempo in midfield, completing 92% of his passes and providing the assist for the opening goal. For Cottbus, Erik Engelhardt was a bright spark, scoring a stunning free-kick and testing the goalkeeper on another occasion.

League Impact

With this victory, Darmstadt climb to third in the Bundesliga 2 standings, keeping pace with the promotion contenders. Cottbus remain in 14th place, just four points above the relegation zone. The result highlights the gap between the two sides, and Darmstadt will be confident of continuing their push for a return to the top flight.
