The French Championnat National 2 delivered another compelling round of fixtures on 20 September 2026, with goals flowing freely and a couple of statements made by the home sides. From a five-goal rout in Corsica to a pair of hard-fought draws, the fourth tier of French football once again underlined why it is one of the most competitive and closely watched development divisions in the country.

Vendée Fontenay Foot 1-1 USSA Vertou: Points Shared in Vendée

Vendée Fontenay Foot and USSA Vertou played out a 1-1 draw at their Vendée base, a result that leaves both clubs with plenty of encouragement but an equal measure of frustration. In a match that was tight from the opening whistle, the hosts took the initiative early and looked the more purposeful side in the first half, pressing high and forcing Vertou into a string of hurried clearances.

The breakthrough came from that pressure, with Fontenay's attacking play rewarded as the home crowd found its voice. Vertou, however, responded with the resilience that has become their trademark in Championnat National 2. Reorganising after the interval, the visitors pushed their full-backs higher and began to find space in behind, and their persistence paid off with an equaliser that silenced the home support.

Key Moments

• Fontenay opened the scoring after a sustained spell of possession and pressure in the opposition half.
• Vertou's response after the break shifted the momentum, with the visitors enjoying their best spell of the match.
• The closing twenty minutes were end-to-end, with both goalkeepers called into meaningful saves.

For Fontenay, the draw keeps them ticking over but leaves them wondering what might have been had they converted their first-half dominance. For Vertou, a point on the road in a difficult away fixture is a solid return, and the manner of the comeback will please the coaching staff as much as the result itself.
