Selongey Edge Five-Goal Thriller at FC Chalon

IS Selongey secured a dramatic 3-2 away victory over FC Chalon in French Championnat National 2 on October 18, 2026, thanks to a hat-trick from Yannick M’Bala. In a match that swung back and forth, Chalon twice equalized before M’Bala’s late winner settled a fiercely contested local encounter.

Match Overview

The game started at a high tempo, with Selongey pressing aggressively and Chalon trying to play through midfield. Selongey took the lead in the 9th minute when M’Bala intercepted a loose pass and drove into the box before finishing low. Chalon responded well and equalized in the 18th minute through Lucas Moreau, who capitalised on a defensive header that fell kindly inside the area.

M’Bala restored Selongey’s lead in the 44th minute with a composed finish after a quick counterattack. Chalon fought back again in the 61st minute when Théo Bernard converted a penalty following a handball. But Selongey found the decisive moment in the 73rd minute, M’Bala completing his hat-trick with a header from a corner.

Key Moments

• 9’ – M’Bala opener: A high press forces a mistake and M’Bala finishes calmly.
• 18’ – Moreau equalizer: Chalon respond quickly through a scrappy box scramble.
• 44’ – M’Bala second: A fast break ends with a low finish into the corner.
• 61’ – Bernard penalty: Chalon level again after a handball is punished.
• 73’ – M’Bala winner: The striker heads home a corner to complete his hat-trick.

Tactical Story

Selongey’s direct approach and aggressive pressing caused Chalon problems throughout. Their midfield won the majority of second balls, allowing them to sustain pressure and create chances from wide areas. Chalon enjoyed more possession but struggled to break down Selongey’s compact defensive block, often resorting to crosses that were comfortably defended.

Standout Players

M’Bala was the obvious difference-maker, showing sharp movement, composure in front of goal and aerial strength. Moreau and Bernard were Chalon’s most positive performers, but the home side’s defensive errors proved costly. Selongey’s goalkeeper also made two important second-half saves to preserve the lead.

Season Impact

The win lifts Selongey’s confidence and strengthens their position in the National 2 table, while Chalon are left to rue missed opportunities in a match they controlled for long spells. For Selongey, the result reinforces their ability to win tight games through direct play and set pieces — qualities that could prove vital in a competitive promotion race.
