Chile U17 Women 1-3 Spain U17 Women: Spain Come From Behind at FIFA U17 Women's World Cup

Spain U17 Women recovered from an early setback to beat Chile U17 Women 3-1 in a FIFA U17 Women's World Cup group-stage match on 25 October 2026. Chile’s bright start produced the opening goal, but Spain’s patience and technical quality eventually took control of the contest.

Match overview

Chile began with energy and surprised Spain by taking the lead inside the opening ten minutes. Rather than panicking, Spain settled into their possession game and began to move the ball more quickly through midfield. The equaliser arrived before half-time, and Spain carried that momentum into the second period. Two further goals after the break completed the comeback and gave Spain a solid three points.

Key moments

• 9th minute: Chile took the lead with a direct attacking move and a smart finish past the Spanish goalkeeper.
• 38th minute: Spain equalised after a patient build-up and a well-placed strike from the edge of the area.
• 61st minute: Spain went ahead for the first time, finishing off a move that stretched Chile from side to side.
• 84th minute: A late third goal sealed the win and reflected Spain’s second-half dominance.

Tactical story

Spain controlled possession for long stretches, using their midfield rotations to create space between Chile’s defensive lines. Chile defended compactly and looked to counter through quick breaks, which worked well in the early stages. As the match wore on, however, Spain’s superior ball retention forced Chile deeper and deeper. The introduction of fresh attacking legs from the bench helped Spain maintain intensity in the final half-hour.

Standout performers

Spain’s midfield conductor was at the heart of the comeback, dictating tempo and finding passes into dangerous areas. The Spanish forward line also grew into the game after a slow start. Chile’s goalkeeper deserves credit for several saves that kept the scoreline respectable, while Chile’s early goalscorer was a constant threat on the break before tiring.

What the result means

The FIFA U17 Women's World Cup result gives Spain an important opening three points and a strong platform in the group. Chile showed flashes of real quality, especially in the first half, but will need to be more resilient in their next match. For Spain, the comeback will reinforce belief in their possession-based approach and their ability to respond to adversity.
