Slovan Liberec Stun Plzeň with Dominant Display

FC Slovan Liberec produced one of the performances of the season so far, defeating title contenders FC Viktoria Plzeň 3–1 at the Doosan Arena on 25 July 2026. The visitors were clinical on the counter‑attack and thoroughly deserved their victory over a Plzeň side that struggled to cope with Liberec’s aggressive pressing.

First‑Half Frenzy

Liberec took the lead in the 11th minute when winger Michal Fukala raced onto a long ball, cut inside, and fired into the top corner. Plzeň responded well and equalised in the 28th minute through striker Tomáš Chorý, who headed home from a corner. However, Liberec re‑established their advantage almost immediately: within two minutes, midfielder Lukáš Hulk pounced on a defensive mistake and slotted home from close range.

The visitors added a third in the 43rd minute. A swift move down the left saw full‑back Matěj Chaluš deliver a perfect cross, and striker Mick van Buren headed in at the far post. Liberec went into the break with a commanding 3–1 lead.

Plzeň Unable to Stem the Tide

Viktoria Plzeň dominated possession in the second half (ending with 65%) but struggled to break down a resolute Liberec defence. The home side created several half‑chances – a shot from Pavel Bucha that hit the post in the 53rd minute, and a strong save from Liberec goalkeeper Olivier Vliegen to deny Jan Kopic – but they never truly threatened a comeback.

Liberec’s game management was excellent; they slowed the pace when needed and used the counter‑attack to pin Plzeň back. The visitors also had a goal disallowed for offside in the 72nd minute, but the final margin of victory remained resolute.
