FC Dobrudzha Dobrich suffered a 1-3 home defeat to CSKA Sofia II in the Bulgarian Vtora Liga on 22 September 2026, as the capital club's reserve side produced an assured away performance at the Druzhba Stadium.

Dobrudzha, one of the most historic names in Bulgarian football outside the top flight, went into the game hoping to use home advantage to climb the Vtora Liga table. CSKA Sofia II had other ideas, and their younger, quicker side controlled long stretches of the contest with a confident passing game.

Match overview

The visitors settled faster, moving the ball crisply through midfield and forcing Dobrudzha into a deep, reactive shape. The hosts struggled to keep possession for long enough to relieve pressure, and their attacks were largely limited to isolated counter-attacks and set pieces in the first hour.

Once CSKA Sofia II scored the opening goal, the match became easier for them. Dobrudzha had to commit more players forward in search of an equaliser, and the space that opened up in behind played directly into the strengths of the away side's quick forward line.

Key moments

• CSKA Sofia II open the scoring — A neat exchange on the edge of the box created a shooting angle, and the finish was low and hard into the bottom corner.
• Dobrudzha respond — The home side levelled through a well-delivered set piece, with a towering header from a central defender bringing the Druzhba crowd to life.
• The visitors regain control — A quick counter-attack restored the lead before half-time, catching Dobrudzha out as they pushed bodies forward.
• The third goal — Early in the second half, a mistake in the home defence was punished ruthlessly, effectively ending the contest as a spectacle.
• Late chances — Dobrudzha pressed in the final twenty minutes and forced two good saves, but CSKA Sofia II managed the closing stages comfortably.

Tactical story

The key battle was in midfield, where CSKA Sofia II's younger legs and sharper combinations consistently won the second balls. Dobrudzha's midfield struggled to track runners, and their back four was repeatedly dragged out of position by the visitors' movement between the lines.

Dobrudzha's route back into the game was always likely to come from set pieces and crosses, and that is precisely where their goal came from. But relying on dead-ball situations against a technically superior opponent is a difficult strategy to sustain over ninety minutes, and once the third goal went in the game was effectively settled.

Standings and outlook

For CSKA Sofia II, this was another demonstration of the depth flowing through the club's youth pipeline, and three points away from home in the Vtora Liga are never easy to come by. The reserve side's results continue to be closely followed by supporters interested in which young players are ready for a step up.

For FC Dobrudzha Dobrich, the defeat is a reminder of how competitive the Bulgarian second tier has become. The club has a proud tradition and a loyal following in the north-east of the country, and turning home fixtures into points will be essential if they are to move up the table. The reverse fixture against CSKA Sofia II later in the season will offer a chance at redemption.
